Volkswagen Announces Installation Of The Moura Battery Factory In Its Industrial Complex In RJ For The Production Of Brazil’s First Electric Truck!

In a move contrary to Ford’s, Volkswagen, the world’s largest vehicle manufacturer, invests in the production of Brazil’s first electric truck.

The multinational Volkswagen Trucks and Buses announces the installation of a Moura battery factory in its industrial complex located in Resende (RJ). The battery supplier arrives with the mission to meet specific processes of the e-Delivery, Brazil’s first electric truck, starting this semester. The head of the multinational recently announced the end of gasoline and diesel combustion engine production.

In addition to providing a battery system, Moura will be responsible for vehicle assembly, electrification, and battery lifecycle management, according to Auto Industria.

Remaining to be produced in series, the e-Delivery determined Moura’s integration into the Volkswagen Trucks and Buses factory production model in Resende (RJ), the Modular Consortium. The battery manufacturer, already a partner of the e-Consortium, a group of companies developing the business model for electrified cargo transport, also participates in the vehicle assembly process.

In the alliance, Moura continues with the role already defined to manage the entire battery lifecycle but now also assumes the provision of the battery system, installation in the truck structure, and startup, the moment when the vehicle is turned on for the first time. “We will have a transversal participation, from start to finish of the battery,” summarizes Cristiane Assis, sales manager of the Moura Group.

The process begins with the shipment of lithium batteries from CATL, another e-Consortium partner, to the Moura unit in Bom Jardim (PE). In a specific area, the manufacturer assembles the system with more than 30 components, including cables, sleepers, chassis, and the integration of the BMS and the battery’s electronic intelligence, to then supply the system, up to the assembly line in Resende.
