The Electric Bicycle System With Integrated Gearbox And Central Transmission Attracted Several Investors Who Want To See This Technology In The Market
In mid-2021, the European company Valeo Automotive Systems reported that it was working on the development of an electric bicycle, which has a motor with central transmission and an integrated gearbox. Almost a year later, during the week, the French multinational announced that this propulsion system developed by it, already considered ‘revolutionary’, is fully ready and will finally go into production around May.

Valeo’s New Electric Bicycle Gains Attention for Its Central Transmission Motor and Integrated Gearbox
The new motor developed by Valeo could soon be available for various electric bicycles that require pedal assistance, as numerous commercial agreements have been made, with an estimate that at least 14 companies are involved in the project. However, it is believed that by 2024, around 100,000 units will finally be delivered.
The electric bicycle has a motor with a central transmission system and an integrated gearbox, something completely innovative in the electric bicycle market.

Among the main brands that signed contracts to supply this specific type of propulsion system for Valeo are Cycleurope, Fuel, and VUF Bikes, which were all drawn to the electric bicycle from the French multinational, which promises to be revolutionary, unlike anything currently available in the market. This type of propulsion system says “goodbye” to chains that tend to slip, providing more safety for the electric bicycle rider.
French Company Assists Valeo in Developing Systems That Add Technology and Value to the Electric Bicycle
In partnership with Effigear, a large company located in Maclas, France, and specialized in producing transmission systems for electric bicycles, Valeo was able to create a practically unique system for its bike.
Valeo chose to integrate a 7-speed gearbox directly linked to the central motor system. Thus, a unique system was created, but with limited dimensions.
The propulsion scheme also allows for the derailleur of bicycle gearboxes to be diverted and enables the use of a belt drive instead of the conventional chain, which is often noisy and less fluid, requiring constant lubrication.
Performance of the Electric Bicycle
The electric bicycle motor can be installed as a normal unit, produced by Bosch or Brose. This makes it much easier to install the motor in various models.
The transmission system operates with 48 volts, powered by a battery that can be installed directly on the bike frame. The company also has other models with a 750W motor, which is currently in testing. Regarding performance, Valeo reported that the electric bicycle motor has 60% more power than average, but did not specify the exact figure of this power.
The European Union has a law that requires the continuous power not to exceed 250 W, regardless of the power that is actually delivered. However, to clarify the power of the bike, it can be said that the electric bicycle is capable of generating around 13 kgfm of torque, which is quite interesting for a bicycle.
