The behavior of diesel, gasoline and ethanol prices diverges in the second week of September, bringing changes to the fuel market
In the current fuel scenario in Brazil, the second week of September reveals different trends for the main vehicle fuels. O Diesel showed an increase of 0,65%, while the gasoline registered slight stability, falling 0,1%. In contrast, the ethanol observed a reduction of 1,19%, becoming a more economical option for flex-fuel vehicles in 14 Brazilian states. These insights come from the most recent survey by ValeCard, a reference in mobility solutions.
Gasoline Price Highlights
Between September 04th and 10th, the gasoline witnessed a subtle decrease of 0,1% compared to the previous week, resulting in a national average of R$6,015 per liter. This panorama is the result of a comprehensive analysis conducted by ValeCard, which evaluated transactions at more than 25 thousand gas stations across Brazil.
This relative stability in the price of gasoline is a direct consequence of competition with ethanol, which has proven to be a more attractive alternative in several regions of the country. Brendon Rodrigues, innovation leader at ValeCard, emphasizes that future increases in the price of gasoline are not discarded. Factors such as the 16,3% adjustment made by Petrobras and the growing international oil prices contribute to this forecast.
Ethanol: A Growing Alternative
On the other hand, the price of hydrated ethanol, used directly in vehicles, decreased by 1,19% in the second week of September. This translates into a national average of R$3,751 per liter. These numbers, also from ValeCard's analysis, indicate a tendency for prices to rebalance amid the increase in agricultural production.
Brendon Rodrigues also highlights that, after an increase of 0,18% in the previous week, the ethanol has seen a reduction in prices, showing an accommodation in the market. Data from the Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Union (Única) reveal significant growth in sugarcane crushing, an indication of potential expansion in sugarcane production. ethanol.
The decision between gasoline e ethanol directly impacts drivers with flex-fuel vehicles. According to the methodology of ValeCard: ethanol becomes a financially advantageous option if its price is equal to or less than 70% of the value of the gasoline. Based on this approach, in several states, such as Bahia, Goiás and São Paulo, the ethanol emerged as the most economical choice in the fourth week of August.
Amid market fluctuations, the behavior of commodity prices fuels continues to influence consumer decisions. While the Diesel continues on an upward trajectory, the gasoline and the ethanol are shown to be competitive alternatives, bringing new challenges and opportunities to the fuel sector in Brazil.
