Here are some things that may be missing:
1 – Update: When was the last time you did this? Tip: type a dot. Update. Delete. Update. Done! When? Once a day is enough.
2 – There’s no point in updating if you don’t have the necessary keywords for the job you are looking for.
3 – Where to find these keywords? Type into Google Career Opportunities Map. Type your position as it most commonly appears in searches. Example: Receptionist.
4 – Show in your experiences what is relevant for the position. How? Look at your application history. Open a document in Word. Copy the last 50 job listings. Observe the patterns of sentence repetitions: you will use them in describing your functions.
5 – Consistency between your professional experience and the positions you apply for. Manager for 10 years wanting to be an analyst? Assistant for a year wanting to be a supervisor? These are classic examples, but there are others. Think: a resume is not a flyer!
6 – No refreshing all day long. Set a time to start and end your job search on Vagas. Once a day is enough.
7 – Are your phone number or email entered incorrectly? Have they changed? Pay attention!
8 – Salary expectation: Glassdoor website. Learn to distribute by ranges: from 1k to 2k.
Golden Interview Tips
1 – Learn to read the job description. Suggestion: cut the verbs that introduce a function and go straight to the point: Ex: plan, execute, and monitor (cut!) the training activities for people in product knowledge. Do you already know what you will do? Training.
2 – Learn to make inferences. Many questions arise from the job description itself. In the example above, questions can be asked in various ways about situations in which you have trained people = capacity building.
3 – Were you taught to use the STAR or CAR methodology and don’t know how to apply it? Now you do: your examples should be based on the job description – always!
4 – Imagine you are applying for the position of Amélia Sr., and you know how to wash, iron, and cook, but the job only asks for the candidate to know how to wash and iron. If the interviewer doesn’t ask and there’s nothing in the description about cooking, then whether I cook or not is irrelevant.
5 – What if the job has a very technical description? The interview will likely follow the same path.
6 – Also know how to infer your strengths and weaknesses that you will bring to the interview. In this example, what is the main strength for someone conducting training? Communication – it’s not just about speaking, okay?
7 – Make spreadsheets of your applications.
Good luck!
