The Best-Selling SUVs In Brazil In 2024 Have Attributes That Put Them In The Lead. Let’s Discover Which One Stands Out In Five Essential Categories!

The Volkswagen T-Cross and Hyundai Creta are the best-selling SUVs in the first half of 2024, according to data from Fenabrave (National Federation of Automotive Vehicle Distribution). The T-Cross underwent changes in May of this year, while the Creta will receive a new look at the beginning of next year, aligning with the design adopted in other emerging markets, such as India, according to autoo.

Sales And Popularity Comparison

From January to June, the Volkswagen T-Cross had 5,936 units sold, according to Fenabrave. The Hyundai Creta was not far behind, with 5,858 units. Year-to-date, the T-Cross totaled 31,519 sales, while the Creta reached 30,351, a minimal difference of just 12 units. With updates to Hyundai’s model promising to be more significant, the competition between these two SUVs is set to become even fiercer. So, which one performs better in five key areas?

Fuel Consumption: Economy First

In terms of consumption, the Volkswagen T-Cross has the advantage. Equipped with a 1.0 12V turbo engine, the T-Cross achieves 8.2 km/l in the city and 10.1 km/l on the highway with ethanol. With gasoline, the figures rise to 11.9 km/l in urban driving and 14.3 km/l on the highway. In comparison, the Hyundai Creta, with its 1.6 16V naturally aspirated engine, records 7.1 km/l in the city and 8.1 km/l on the highway with ethanol, and 9.7 km/l in urban driving and 12.1 km/l on the highway with gasoline. Therefore, the T-Cross is more economical.

Internal Space: Comfort And Cargo Capacity

When it comes to internal space, the Hyundai Creta stands out. It has 10 cm more in length (4.29 meters versus 4.19 meters for the T-Cross) and is 7 cm taller (1.63 meters versus 1.56 meters), providing a better use of internal space. However, the middle passenger in the back seat faces the inconvenience of a central tunnel. In the trunk, the Creta also wins, with a capacity of 431 liters versus 373 liters for the T-Cross. Thus, the Creta ties the game.

Power And Torque: Agility And Performance

In terms of power and torque, the Volkswagen T-Cross again stands out. With its 1.0 turbo 12V engine, it delivers 128 hp on ethanol and 116 hp on gasoline, as well as 20.4 kgfm of torque with both fuels. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 10.1 seconds, and the top speed is 187 km/h. The Hyundai Creta, with a 1.6 naturally aspirated engine, has 128/123 hp and 16.5/16 kgfm, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12 seconds and reaches 172 km/h. Both have a six-speed automatic transmission, but the T-Cross is more agile.

Equipment And Safety: Protection And Comfort

In safety features, the Volkswagen T-Cross has the advantage. It comes with six airbags, while the Hyundai Creta offers only two. The T-Cross also features automatic differential locking (EDS), useful on low-traction surfaces, and external mirrors with a “Tilt down” function to assist in parking maneuvers. With these differentiators, the T-Cross extends its advantage.

After-Sales Service: Warranty And Maintenance Cost

In after-sales, Hyundai takes the lead with a five-year warranty with no mileage limit for private use. Additionally, the brand’s scheduled maintenance is more transparent, and the first service is significantly cheaper compared to Volkswagen. VW offers a three-year warranty with a limit of 10,000 kilometers or 12 months, whichever comes first. Thus, the Creta earns points back, but the T-Cross still wins by 3×2.

Which Of These Two Machines Would You Choose?

Based on these five points, the Volkswagen T-Cross Sense 200 TSI stands out as the better choice, particularly for its more efficient fuel consumption, superior performance, and better safety equipment. However, the Hyundai Creta Action 1.6 offers more internal space and a more attractive after-sales policy, making it a viable option for those seeking long-term comfort and safety.

For those who are undecided between these two models, considering personal priorities is essential. If fuel economy and agility are fundamental, the T-Cross is the right choice. On the other hand, if space and a more robust after-sales service are more important, the Creta may be ideal.
