Argentinian Version Brings More Powerful Engine And Different Equipment Package Than Sold In Brazil
The Volkswagen ceased sales of vehicles with the 1.6 MSI engine in Brazil in January 2025 due to emission regulations. However, the measure did not affect all of Latin America. Proof of this is the launch, in March 2025, of the Tera Trend 1.6 in Argentina. The compact SUV retains this engine and presents relevant differences compared to the model offered here.
1.6 MSI Engine Is Present In The Argentine Tera
The Tera Trend replaces the 1.0 MPI with 84 hp and 10.3 kgfm in Argentina with the 1.6 MSI with 110 hp and 15.8 kgfm. The set is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. This change represents a significant performance gain, as the 1.0 engine prioritizes efficiency.
Volkswagen, however, did not disclose official data on top speed or acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h. This engine, which in Brazil was restricted to the Saveiro pickup, shows how the brand adjusts its offerings according to the legislation in each country.

Equipment Package And Series Differences
The Argentinian Tera Trend comes with a set of equipment similar to that of the Tera 1.0 MPI Brazilian. However, there are differences that deserve attention.
- Standard Features In Argentina: six airbags, cruise control, LED headlights, air conditioning, height and depth adjustable steering wheel, 10-inch multimedia center, 8-inch digital panel, electric mirror adjustments, and rear parking sensor.
- Wheels And Tires: the Argentinian model comes factory-equipped with 16” wheels and 205/60 tires. In Brazil, the set includes 15” wheels with 185/65 tires.
- Automatic Emergency Braking: in Brazil, this feature has been standard since February 2025. In Argentina, it is sold as an optional feature, as highlighted by Latin NCAP in tests released that same month.
Safety Evaluated By Latin NCAP
In February 2025, Latin NCAP released the results of the Tera Trend evaluation. The SUV received the highest rating of five stars, even without offering automatic emergency braking as standard in the Argentinian market.
The Latin NCAP protocol determines that the system must be present in at least 55% of the units produced and sold in the region. Thus, the vehicle maintained the maximum score in safety.
Price Comparison Between Brazil And Argentina
The Volkswagen Tera Trend 1.6 was launched in Argentina in March 2025 with an initial price of 29,900,000 Argentine pesos. The amount is equivalent to approximately R$ 112,436.
In Brazil, the Tera 1.0 MPI has been sold since March 2025 for R$ 105,890, according to the official table released by Volkswagen Brazil. The difference, therefore, is about R$ 6,500, showing close values in both markets.
Summary Of The Main Differences
- Engine: 1.0 MPI with 84 hp in Brazil; 1.6 MSI with 110 hp in Argentina.
- Safety: Brazil with automatic emergency braking as standard; Argentina without this feature, but with larger wheels.
- Price: small difference in values, with slightly higher costs in the Argentinian market.
Volkswagen’s Regional Strategy
The launch of the Tera Trend 1.6 in Argentina reinforces Volkswagen’s strategy of adapting its product line to local regulations and preferences. While Brazil remains restricted to the new environmental requirements since January 2025, Argentina maintains a model with more robust performance.
This choice shows that, although SUVs maintain similar equipment in both countries, the difference in the mechanical set and standard safety items reveals distinct priorities in each market.
What do you think weighs more for the Argentinian consumer: having more performance with the 1.6 MSI engine or having standard safety features, as is the case in Brazil?
