The shipping company will use ABB's Crane OCR system to drive automation of its activities. Wilson Sons has been investing in technology and modernization of container transport with cranes at Tecon Rio Grande.

The largest maritime logistics operator, Wilson Sons, has a new agreement to modernize its operations at the Tecon Rio Grande terminal. The transport company signed a contract with ABB for the implementation of the Crane OCR system in the operations with container cranes in the port terminal. Data capture processes will become even more efficient and agile during the loading and unloading of equipment at the Rio Grande do Sul complex.

Brazil's largest maritime logistics operator is expanding its investments in technology and modernization at Tecon Rio Grande, located in the Rio Grande do Sul.

Wilson Sons has partnered with ABB to implement the company's Crane OCR data capture and processing system for operations at the complex.

The Optical Character Recognition system will be used together with QuayPro to digitize the container packing confirmation processes.

The logistics company has already been using ABB technologies at the gates of Tecon Rio Grande and Tecon Salvador since 2023. Now, it intends to rely on the company's automation innovations for operations with container cranes.

Paulo Bertinetti, Executive Director of Terminal Rio Grande, celebrated yet another great novelty by Wilson Sons with ABB to improve operational processes in the complex.

“This partnership means another step towards our commitment to achieve even more efficiency and sustainability in operations, through technology and process automation”, said the specialist.

ABB's Crane OCR system uses data capture technology to optimize processes while containers are being loaded and unloaded with cranes at Tecon Rio Grande.

In this way, it automates processes for capturing numbers, ISO codes, door orientation, the presence of seals and dangerous material warnings on containers.

Those responsible for the activities can correct possible operational errors even while loading or unloading the equipment, further optimizing time.

Giovanni Phonlor, Director of Operations at the Rio Grande container terminal, reinforced that Wilson Sons' new agreement with ABB allows for even more operational security in the terminal.

“Minimizing the risk of error in data entry means more efficient operations. Technology works hand in hand with more agile and greener operations, ready for growth in traffic and vessel capacity,” he said.

By joining ABB Crane OCR and the QuayPro module, Wilson Sons is able to optimize operating time and ensure more productivity in day-to-day work.

In addition, it manages to provide input for the operation system from the terminal create an accurate output BAPLIE file as well as confirm the positions for the activities.

The new ABB module contracted by Wilson Sons not only optimizes processes with container cranes, but revolutionizes the automation of Tecon Rio Grande.
