The Maritime Transport Company Will Use ABB’s Crane OCR System to Boost the Automation of Its Activities. Wilson Sons Has Been Investing in Technology and Modernization of Container Transport with Cranes at Tecon Rio Grande.

Brazil’s largest maritime logistics operator, Wilson Sons, has a new agreement to modernize its operations at the Tecon Rio Grande terminal. The transport company signed a contract with ABB for the implementation of the Crane OCR system in the operations with container cranes at the port terminal. Data capture processes will become even more efficient and agile during the loading and unloading of equipment at the Rio Grande do Sul complex.

ABB’s Crane OCR Operational Automation System Will Be Used by Wilson Sons in Container Activities with Cranes at Tecon Rio Grande

Brazil’s largest maritime logistics operator is expanding its investments in technology and modernization of Tecon Rio Grande, located in the Rio Grande do Sul.

Wilson Sons has partnered with ABB for the implementation of the company’s Crane OCR data processing and capture system for operations at the complex.

The Optical Character Recognition system will be used along with QuayPro to digitize the processes for confirming container stowage.

The logistics company has already been using ABB’s technologies at the Tecon Rio Grande and Tecon Salvador gates since 2023. Now, it aims to leverage the company’s automation innovations for container crane operations.

Paulo Bertinetti, Executive Director of the Rio Grande Terminal, celebrated another significant advancement from Wilson Sons with ABB to improve operational processes at the complex.

“This partnership signifies another step towards our commitment to achieve even greater efficiency and sustainability in operations through technology and process automation,” the specialist stated.

ABB’s Crane OCR system uses data capture technology to optimize processes while containers are undergoing loading and unloading operations with cranes at Tecon Rio Grande.

In this way, it automates the capture of numbers, ISO codes, door orientation, seal presence, and hazardous material warnings on containers.

The personnel responsible for the activities can correct potential operational errors even during the loading or unloading of the equipment, further optimizing time.

Wilson Sons Invests in Process Optimization and Greater Productivity at Tecon Rio Grande with the New ABB Crane OCR System in Its Activities

Giovanni Phonlor, Operations Director of the Rio Grande Container Terminal, emphasized that Wilson Sons’ new agreement with ABB allows for even more operational security at the terminal.

“Minimizing the risk of data entry errors means more efficient operations. Technology works hand in hand with faster and greener operations, ready for the growth of traffic and vessel capacity,” he stated.

Combining ABB’s Crane OCR and the QuayPro module allows Wilson Sons to optimize operational time and ensure greater productivity in daily work.

Additionally, it can provide input for the terminal operating system to create an accurate BAPLIE output file, as well as confirm positions for activities.

The new module from ABB contracted by Wilson Sons not only optimizes container crane processes but revolutionizes automation at Tecon Rio Grande.
