Santos Brasil Expanded Its Capacity for General Cargo Operations at the Port of Imbituba, Located in Santa Catarina, with the Installation of a 7,500 m² Tent Warehouse at Tecon, Increasing the Total Covered Area from 8,550 m² of the General Cargo Terminal (TCG) to 16,050 m². All Investments Made Are on the Order of R$ 3 Million.
In addition, the warehouse at Tecon Vila do Conde will also undergo some works for the expansion of its planned investments. Among these works, there is the roof and shelving elevation, allowing for an increase of over 20% in storage capacity and a 55% expansion of the area for refrigerated containers, totaling 450 connections in all.
In operation since the beginning of January, this new space currently houses 9,000 tons of big bags of fertilizers, and is also suitable for the storage of steel and cellulose products, providing protection against external agents such as humidity and rain.
However, this involves an investment of around R$ 120 million aimed at expansion works and the purchase of new equipment, with the goal of increasing the terminal’s capacity by about 40%, from the current 217,000 TEUs/year to over 300,000 TEUs/year by 2025. Nevertheless, the R$ 120 million investment from Santos Brasil will not only be applied to construction but also in acquiring new equipment for the terminal.

With deep ports and strategic railway, Espírito Santo advances to compete with Santos and attract foreign trade cargo.
These include: 5 reach stackers, 1 MHC (Mobile Harbour Crane), 2 terminal tractors, 3 trucks, 3 trailers, 3 forklifts, and two road cranes. To carry out the general cargo handling and storage at Tecon Imbituba, this company received authorization from Antaq (National Agency for Waterway Transportation). “This measure was adopted to understand the high demand for general cargo in Southern Brazil. With this growth, the Port of Imbituba has become one of the options for these operations, and we sought a solution with the efficiency and safety that are hallmarks of Santos Brasil,” says Roberto Teller, Director of Port Operations.
In 2022, the Port of Imbituba reached a new milestone, achieving the best performance of the year in its history, with the handling of 7.1 million tons. Compared to the previous record set in 2021, there was an increase of around 3.6% in the volume handled.
With easy access to railway, road, and maritime transportation, and its strategic location, Santos Brasil operates in Imbituba at TCG, which provides service with significant differences and a trained team to store high-complexity and high-value cargo, and Tecon is already prepared to receive the largest ships in the world, without any restrictions on navigation or physical access.
