New Compact SUV Will Be Manufactured in Sorocaba (SP), Will Bring Hybrid Version, and Will Compete with T-Cross, HR-V, and Creta

The Toyota Yaris Cross will be the brand’s main launch in Brazil in 2025. The model arrives in October with an urban SUV proposal, three confirmed versions, and a hybrid option, promising a consumption of up to 19 km/l with gasoline, according to data obtained by specialized press.

The information was previously reported by the website Carros na Web and partially confirmed by Autoesporte. The Yaris Cross will be produced at the Sorocaba (SP) plant and will use the DNGA platform, derived from the Corolla’s TNGA. It will occupy the space below the Corolla Cross, in a segment contested by Volkswagen T-Cross, Honda HR-V, and Hyundai Creta.

Three Versions and Standout Features in All of Them

The Toyota Yaris Cross will be offered in the versions XS, XLS, and XLS Hybrid. Even the base version comes with a robust safety package, featuring six airbags, traction and stability control, disc brakes on all four wheels, a rearview camera, and alerts for front collision and lane change.

The XLS version adds a front sensor, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, leather power seats, 18-inch wheels, and onboard Wi-Fi with induction charger. The XLS Hybrid adds panoramic sunroof, 360° cameras, electric trunk lid, and an energy regeneration system.

All versions will feature electronic parking brake with auto-hold, a modern multimedia center, and LED headlights. National production will ensure available parts and lower maintenance costs compared to imported rivals.

Flex and Hybrid Engines: Consumption is the Highlight of the Electric Version

The XS and XLS versions will have the known updated 1.5 flex aspirated engine, with up to 110 hp and 14.3 kgfm torque, coupled with a seven-speed simulated CVT. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h will be achieved in 13 seconds, with a maximum speed of 170 km/h.

The estimated consumption is 12 km/l in the city and 13 km/l on the highway with gasoline, according to press surveys. With ethanol, the averages drop to 8 and 9 km/l, respectively. The tank holds 42 liters, following the efficiency trend of Proconve L8.

<pIn the XLS Hybrid, the combustion engine operates on the Atkinson cycle (with up to 95 hp) and is combined with an 80 hp electric motor, delivering a combined power of 115 hp. In this case, urban consumption reaches 19 km/l with gasoline, and 13 km/l with ethanol. The autonomy is favored by the 36-liter tank.

DNGA Platform, Interior Space, and Generous Trunk

With 4.31 meters in length, the Toyota Yaris Cross has dimensions close to the Hyundai Creta, highlighting the wheelbase of 2.62 meters and a trunk of 417 liters—more than rivals like HR-V and T-Cross. The width of 1.77 meters and height of 1.62 ensure an elevated driving position, typical of SUVs.

The model’s structure is based on the DNGA platform, created by Daihatsu. It is simpler and lighter than the TNGA used in the Corolla Cross, but maintains a good level of rigidity and safety. Production in Sorocaba is part of Toyota’s R$ 11 billion investment plan in Brazil until 2030, which includes electrification and modernization of the factory.

Do you think the Toyota Yaris Cross will perform better than national rivals? Does the hybrid version seem like a good choice to you? Share your opinion in the comments!

Esse carro está parecendo cabeça de bacalhau, já encheu essa femora toda. Vai ser a mesma frustração que foi a nova Montana…. Muito alarde para pouca coisa.
