Yesterday, the Minister of Mines and Energy signed the authorization for the installation of the GNA II Thermoelectric Power Plant in the port complex

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Moreira Franco, signed yesterday the authorization for the installation of the GNA II Thermoelectric Plant, developed by Gás Natural Açu in Porto do Açu, in São João da Barra (RJ). The venture will have 1.673 MW of installed capacity, enough to supply seven million homes. With this grant, Porto do Açu becomes the largest thermoelectric complex in Latin America. The plant is part of the Açu Gas Hub, a logistics solution for receiving, processing, consuming and transporting natural gas produced in the Campos Basin (RJ) and Santos (SP), in addition to importing and storing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

jobs and works

According to Magela, the construction of this second thermoelectric plant (GNA II) will begin in 2019, adding up to the expectation of 2500 hires up to 3 at the peak of the project and will positively boost the economy of the North Fluminense Region.

GNA I, which is already being built by Andrade Gutierrez, will be capable of producing 1.300MW of energy, plus a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal, which will process more than 20 million m³. According to the designers who are in charge of the enterprise, when the construction of the GNA II starts next year, the works of the GNA I will already be well advanced.

The first thermoelectric plant is expected to start operating in 2021 and the second for 2023. The gas terminal should start operating in just over 1 year.
The associated companies involved in the project are Prumo Logística, Siemens and BP (Britsh Petroleum). The budget was 8 billion reais to run this project, which will make it the largest thermoelectric complex in Latin America, with a total capacity of 3 MW of installed power.
