It Will Be The Only Ship Repair Yard In All Of South America. It Will Generate 6,000 Direct And Indirect Jobs, Said The Deputy Governor Of Paraíba, Lígia Feliciano
This Tuesday, September 3, the Legislative Assembly of Paraíba installed the Brazil (Paraíba)-China Parliamentary Front, which aims to facilitate contact and establish business partnerships with the Asian country, thus bringing investments and resources, generating new job opportunities for the state. The group will also fight for the construction of a shipyard in the city of Lucena. In April of this year, the government signed a Letter of Intent with the Chinese ship repair yard IMC YY
Deputy Lindolfo Pires, president of the Parliamentary Front, emphasized that the commercial relationship between Paraíba and China could transform into a new generation of jobs and income for the state.

“This investment in the shipyard has already led Governor João Azevedo to have a meeting last week with the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, to show that this will also be one of the largest investments made in Brazil. We are talking about more than one billion dollars to be invested. So, the Assembly should actively participate in this process and all these negotiations due to the size of the resources that are coming,” he stated.
Governor João Azevêdo said after the meeting in Brasília that the construction works for the implementation of the shipyard should begin next year. “The project already has environmental approval, and the next step to be taken is the detailing of the engineering part, and we expect that, 24 months after the start of the works, we will have the first ship to be repaired in Lucena,” he highlighted.
According to the governor, the project will enable the establishment of an Industrial District in the region. “A shipyard like this undertakes the macro structural recovery of a ship; however, we are planning, in partnership with the city hall of Lucena, the installation of an Industrial District to attract the companies that will provide complementary services to the work of the shipyard, which will generate many jobs,” he explained.
For Deputy Governor Lígia Feliciano, who was part of a delegation to China in July, Paraíba has many attractions and good social indicators that can lead the Chinese to invest in various areas in the state, such as solar energy and mariculture.
“We went to five ministries of the federal government to gain commitment, as this is an investment of around 4 billion reais that is not just of Paraíba, but of national interest. It will be the only ship repair yard in all of South America. It will generate 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. This will attract industries and bring development to Paraíba”, emphasized Lígia Feliciano.
