Transfer of the Manaus Factory to São Paulo Will Optimize Production, Increase Efficiency, Reduce Carbon Emissions, and Speed Up the Arrival of Heineken Products to Retail Points

Heineken, a multinational leader in beer production, will transfer its factory located in the Free Trade Zone of Manaus to Itu, São Paulo. The unit was operating in the Aparecida neighborhood, in the southern zone of the Amazonian capital. The announcement was made last Friday, the 4th. The information comes from Valor Econômico.

In the city of Itu, the group’s non-alcoholic beverage portfolio is produced, currently represented by the brands FYs, Itubaína, Viva Schin, Skinka, and Água Schin. According to Heineken, the aim of the move is to optimize production, increase the efficiency of the entire chain involved in this process, reduce its carbon emissions, and speed up the arrival of products to retail points, becoming even more competitive and aligned with market dynamics.

In a statement to Valor Econômico, the group informed that this decision also represents another step in the journey that began last June when the Heineken Group announced the removal of PET packaging larger than 1 liter from its non-alcoholic beverage portfolio. “The Group reaffirms its investment and confidence in the Brazilian market, where it has sought to grow in a respectful and sustainable manner, and thanks the entire community of Manaus and the state of Amazonas for their support during all these years of local operation,” says a part of the statement.

The Heineken Group employs approximately 18 workers at the Manaus unit, who are eligible for the severance package negotiated with the union. The company reported that it is in negotiations with the local union leadership to finalize the transfer plan for this plant. After that, the plan is to sell the property.

In 2020, the group had already announced that the Heineken brand would continue to be distributed after a court ruling. At that time, there was a shortage of beer in Manaus due to a lack of raw materials caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The factory began operations in the Amazonian capital in 2013 and also served municipalities like Itacoatiara and Parintins (268 and 369 kilometers from Manaus, respectively).
