Meet the new model that promises to revolutionize the Hot Hatch segment in China

In a strategic move to conquer new markets, BYD, electric vehicle giant, is about to launch the Seal 06 GT electric hatchback. Scheduled to debut on October 18, 2024, the model arrives on the Chinese market with a starting price from US$21.000. This novelty promises to be a a different option for sports car lovers, combining cutting-edge technology and bold design, according to the Electrek website.

Modern design and aesthetic influences

The Seal 06 GT, which was unveiled as the Ocean-M concept at the Beijing Auto Show in April, is the industry's first rear-wheel drive (RWD) performance electric hatchback. The vehicle's aesthetics reflect a combination of influences from the already well-known Ocean series models, like the Dolphin and Seal, while featuring a silhouette reminiscent of the iconic Volkswagen Golf. With dimensions of 4.630 mm in length, 1.880 mm in width and 1.490 mm in height, the electric hatchback positions itself as a robust option compared to its competitors.

High-tech platform and performance

Built on BYD's new e-Platform 3.0 Evo, the Hatch Seal 06 GT not only promises greater performance, but also faster charging times, a constant concern for electric vehicle consumers. The model will be available in three engine versions: the basic, equipped with a 214 hp (160 kW) rear engine; the intermediate, which offers 221 hp (165 kW); and a dual-engine version that impresses with 415 hp (310 kW), capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4,9 seconds. This performance puts BYD's hatchback in a competitive position, especially considering that its 73 kWh battery provides a range of up to 605 km, according to WLTP test standards.

Connected interior and advanced technology

The interior of the Seal 06 GT hatch is a reflection of BYD's minimalist approach, integrating an infotainment system floating 15,6-inch display and a 10,25-inch driver display. This setup is complemented by a 12-inch head-up display, who keeps drivers informed without having to take their eyes off the road. The inclusion of the latest innovations in software and connectivity reinforces BYD’s commitment to delivering a modern and intuitive driving experience.

A New Player in the Global Market

The arrival of the Seal 06 GT is not limited to the Chinese market only; BYD also has plans to launch the model in Europe, where demand for electric vehicles is growing rapidly. The electric hatchback joins a growing list of models BYD is introducing, including pickup trucks, electric supercars and luxury vehicles, demonstrating the automaker's intention to diversify its portfolio.

Very interesting, it seems to be a comfortable car, but the price is still high. I'll wait a little longer to buy an electric vehicle. But it must be an excellent car.

I'm happy to see BYD cars, but the prices are too high. I'll have to wait a little longer before thinking about owning one of these cars.

There should be a tax exemption, it would help with the purchase, this type of vehicle is not produced in Brazil, as there are no national competitors, it would be a great solution.
