Meet The New Model That Promises To Revolutionize The Hot Hatch Segment In China
In a strategic move to conquer new markets, BYD, a giant in electric vehicles, is about to launch the electric hatchback Seal 06 GT. Set to debut on October 18, 2024, the model arrives in the Chinese market with a starting price of US$ 21,000. This new offering promises to be a unique option for sports car enthusiasts, combining cutting-edge technology and bold design, according to Electrek.
Modern Design And Aesthetic Influences
The Seal 06 GT, which was unveiled as the Ocean-M concept at the Beijing Auto Show in April, is the first rear-wheel drive (RWD) electric performance hatchback in the industry. The vehicle’s aesthetics reflect a blend of influences from the already well-known Ocean series models, such as the Dolphin and the Seal, while featuring a silhouette reminiscent of the iconic Volkswagen Golf. With dimensions of 4,630 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, the electric hatch positions itself as a robust option compared to its competitors.

Platform And High-Performance Technology
Built on BYD’s new e-Platform 3.0 Evo, the Seal 06 GT hatch not only promises greater performance, but also faster charging times, a constant concern for electric vehicle consumers. The model will be available in three powertrain versions: the base, equipped with a rear motor of 214 hp (160 kW); the mid-level, offering 221 hp (165 kW); and a dual-motor version that impresses with 415 hp (310 kW), capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. This performance places BYD’s hatch in a competitive position, especially considering that its 73 kWh battery provides a range of up to 605 km, according to WLTP test standards.

Connected Interior And Advanced Technology
The interior of the Seal 06 GT hatch is a reflection of BYD’s minimalist approach, integrating a 15.6-inch floating infotainment system and a 10.25-inch driver display. This setup is complemented by a 12-inch head-up display, which keeps drivers informed without requiring them to look away from the road. The inclusion of the latest software and connectivity innovations reinforces BYD’s commitment to providing a modern and intuitive driving experience.
A New Player In The Global Market
The arrival of the Seal 06 GT is not limited to the Chinese market; BYD also plans to launch the model in Europe, where the demand for electric vehicles is rapidly growing. The electric hatch joins a growing list of models that BYD is introducing, including pickups, electric supercars, and luxury vehicles, demonstrating the automaker’s intention to diversify its portfolio.
