The New BYD M9 2026 Arrives With More Electric Range, Semi-Autonomous Driving Technology, and Renewed Visuals, Promising to Strengthen the Manufacturer’s Presence in the Hybrid Minivan Market in China.

BYD has scheduled the launch of the M9 2026 in China for November 4.

The new version of the model increases the electric range to up to 218 km in the CLTC cycle and now offers a LiDAR sensor on the roof for semi-autonomous driving features.

The seven-seater minivan continues to be aimed at families and corporate fleets, focusing on energy efficiency and connectivity, according to information released by the manufacturer.

Launch and Positioning in the Portfolio

The M9 remains BYD’s largest plug-in hybrid and positions itself between the luxurious Denza D9 and smaller models from the brand.

The strategy seeks to expand the company’s presence in the hybrid minivan segment, after the same vehicle was launched in Mexico this year under the same name, according to statements from the manufacturer.

Electric Range and Battery Package

The increase to 218 km of electric range represents the main technical advancement of the 2026 line.

BYD reported that this configuration will utilize a new battery package, larger than the current 20.4 kWh and 36.6 kWh used in the 100 km and 180 km range versions.

According to the brand, the change aims to reduce fuel use in urban routes and increase the operational efficiency of the model.

LiDAR Sensor and Assisted Driving

The technological novelty is the LiDAR mounted on the roof, an optional item that now integrates the DiPilot B assistance system.

According to the manufacturer, the device replaces the previous configuration with three cameras and enhances environmental recognition, expanding the repertoire of assisted driving functions compared to the 2025 model.

Design, Dimensions, and New Color

On the outside, the M9 maintains the visual identity Loong Face (Dragon Face), with a chrome front grille and sharp LED headlights.

The new color Far Mountain Green is now part of the available palette.

The dimensions remain the same: 5.145 meters in length, 1.97 meters in width, 1.805 meters in height, and 3.045 meters in wheelbase.

The interior remains configured for seven occupants in the 2+2+3 arrangement, with sliding rear doors.

Interior and Finishing

The internal design maintains what BYD calls the “Chinese Courtyard” concept, inspired by symmetries and traditional architectural elements.

The cabin features a floating multimedia center, flat-bottom steering wheel, and a gear selector on the steering column.

According to the manufacturer, these solutions were adopted to optimize space and facilitate movement between the rows of seats.

DM-i Hybrid System and Performance

The M9 uses the DM-i system, which combines a 1.5 turbo engine with 115 kW (156 hp) and a 200 kW (272 hp) electric motor.

According to technical data from BYD, the combination aims to balance performance and fuel economy, using an e-CVT transmission and Blade batteries.

The total combined power has not yet been officially confirmed by the company for the 2026 line.

Price Range and Competitors

The sector expectation is that the new M9 maintains prices close to those currently practiced, between 249,800 and 309,800 yuan, which corresponds to about R$ 175,000 to R$ 215,000 in direct conversion.

This range places the model in competition with the Buick GL8 PHEV and SAIC Maxus MIFA 9 Super Hybrid, which occupy the same segment of hybrid minivans in the Chinese market.

Commercial Performance and Prospects

According to market data compiled by the Chinese press, the M9 recorded 1,467 units sold in September, ranking 11th among large MPVs in the country.

Automotive sector analysts point out that the new version, with increased range and assistance features, may increase interest from corporate and family audiences in the coming months, although the effects still depend on the acceptance of the new hybrid setup.

International Strategy and Regional Projection

The introduction of the M9 in Mexico is viewed by experts as part of BYD’s expansion strategy in Latin America.

So far, there has been no official announcement about the model’s commercialization in Brazil, but the move indicates the manufacturer’s interest in competing in the segment of larger electrified vehicles in the region.

What Changes for the Consumer

With the new technical package, the 2026 line is expected to offer greater electric range, LiDAR sensor option, and seven-seater interior.

According to BYD, the goal is to reduce fuel consumption and increase the use of electric mode for urban trips, reserving the combustion engine for longer journeys.

Analysts assert that this proposal puts the M9 in a competitive condition with other premium hybrid models, balancing price, technology, and interior space.

Expectations for the Launch

The manufacturer is expected to detail during the November 4 event the final configurations, the pricing of the versions, and official technical data regarding consumption and combined power.

This information will allow for direct comparisons with the segment competitors and with the current versions of the M9, which have 100 km and 180 km of certified electric range under the CLTC standard.

Caramba!
