Toyota goes against the grain of the world and refuses to abandon combustion engines. The multinationals Volkswagen, Renault, Honda and Volvo have already announced the closure of production of gasoline and diesel engines
The Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer Toyota is going in the opposite direction to the automakers Volkswagen, Renault, Honda and Volvo, and decides to remain with the production of combustion engines, gasoline and diesel in its factories for some time. But that's not to say the automaker refuses to give in to electrification and honor its carbon neutrality commitments.

It is worth remembering that Toyota was the first volume brand to launch a hybrid car in 1997 – which combine electric and combustion engines, at a time when little was said about it.
Despite wanting to honor its commitments to carbon neutrality, the Japanese company wants to continue investing, for a while longer, in hybrid vehicles, whether they are rechargeable from outlets or not. This type of assembly has become a tradition at Toyota.

As an example, we can mention the best-selling car in the world, the Corolla, which broke barriers and gained a hybrid version; and, again, the automobile, it was the world's first dual-fuel hybrid car.
Toyota's resistance to electric cars sparks controversy among shareholders
The Japanese company's decision to maintain tradition has caused controversy among shareholders. According to Reuters news agency, Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda has been criticized by shareholders for his stance against fully electric models, running the risk of investors leaving the company.
The Japanese company believes that, by 2030, in the US, 70% of sales of the Toyota and Lexus brands will be electric models – powered by electricity or hydrogen cells.
Toyota doesn't refuse to embrace electrification in cars, but says it will take longer than expected. Also during the U.S. deposition, Wimmer said, "It's not that Toyota is totally against an industry-wide shift to electrics, it simply recognizes that it will take longer than 14 years for GM's promise to be implemented," noting that it took Toyota 20 years to sell more than 4 million hybrids.
Toyota goes against Volkswagen, Renault, Honda and Volvo
Presented less than a month ago as a concept, the bZ4x will be Toyota's first fully electric car and the first of an unprecedented lineup, which will feature 7 models, which will arrive by 2025. Another 8 models, all hybrids, are also expected to be presented in the same period.
While Toyota resists keeping the production of combustion, gasoline and diesel engines alive for more good years, the brand's competitors announce their end.
Honda has established that by 2040 it will end the production of combustion, gasoline and diesel engines. Volkswagen was the other auto giant to announce that it will not develop new gasoline or diesel engines.
Volvo has stopped selling all-combustion cars and currently sells only hybrids. According to the automaker, from 2030, the chances of the company joining only electric models are great.
Renault, for its part, announced that, from now on, it will not develop new combustion, gasoline and diesel engines. Therefore, it will only update those that already exist, adapting them to the new emission standards, until the end of their life cycle.
