At 92, Francisco Lima Finished 42 km in Goiânia and Impressed Participants by Reaffirming His Disciplined Routine, His Unique Story, and His Ongoing Commitment to an Active Life Through the Marathons He Holds

Francisco Lima, at 92, completed the 42 km of the 12th marathon held in Goiânia two months ago. The achievement drew attention because he presents himself as the oldest active marathon runner in the country, and he receives constant praise on social media for his performance.

The race took place on a Sunday, starting at the Municipal Palace. The event aims to raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis and encourage regular exercise.

Therefore, the organization highlights that the marathon also serves as an educational campaign.

Performance That Surprises

Even with a hunched back and advanced age, Francisco completed the course in 4 hours, 24 minutes, and 2 seconds. The time is considered excellent for amateur runners and reinforces public admiration.

On social media, he shares training sessions, routines, and snippets of the races he participates in across the country. The engagement is high because many internet users say they are impressed with the energy and discipline of the runner.

“Four hours and a few minutes in a marathon at this age, you’re flying low,” commented a follower.

Documented Story

The documentary “In the Trail of Life,” available on YouTube, showcases Francisco’s journey. According to him, he was born on May 6, 1933, in Petrolina de Goiás.

Moreover, he mentioned that his father altered his documents, reducing his age by 10 years. The reason was to facilitate personal matters at the time.

The film shows scenes of Goiânia and follows the marathon runner through the streets, parks, and sidewalks of the city.

While many are working, he prepares his look with a mohawk, a red headband, and running clothes. After that, he goes out to train as part of his routine.

Life After Family

Francisco stated in the documentary that after raising his 10 children, he decided to dedicate himself to himself.
I raised everyone, when they turned 18 I said, ‘bye, now I’m going to live,’” he reported.

The phrase summarizes the new phase he chose for his own story. Therefore, his presence in the marathons represents more than physical endurance: it symbolizes the desire to remain active, in motion, and celebrating life.
