The program is part of the National Network of History Teaching and aims to qualify professionals who work in public and private schools.
Alongside the master’s program, the network also offers professional doctorate positions, increasing the total number of postgraduate opportunities in the field.
Classes are in-person and organized by the associated institutions.
Each unit defines its own curriculum and may schedule activities between Monday and Saturday, according to administrative capacity and academic calendar.
Some positions may have support from PROEB/CAPES, which provides scholarships for public school teachers, conditional on budget availability, with no universal guarantee of grant allocation.
Research Lines of the Master’s in History Teaching
The academic structure of the course is organized into three research lines.
The first, Historical Knowledge in the School Space, addresses practices and methodologies related to History teaching in Basic Education.
The Languages, Media, and Narratives in History Teaching line analyzes the use of different supports and resources — such as teaching materials, digital platforms, and audiovisual productions — in teaching and learning processes.
The third line, Heritage, Memory, and Identities in History Teaching, investigates approaches related to local history, collective memory, and identity themes in school and non-school environments.
Distribution of Positions by Regions of Brazil
The 677 positions are distributed among institutions across all regions of the country.
In the Central-West, the announcement includes UFG, UEMS, UNEMAT, and UFMT.
In the Northeast, universities from Bahia, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Maranhão, Rio Grande do Norte, and Sergipe are participating.
The North Region includes institutions from Acre, Amapá, Pará, Roraima, and Tocantins.
In the Southeast, there are positions in Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo, including PUC-Rio, UERJ, UNIRIO, UFRJ, UFF, UFRRJ, Unicamp, UFU, and UNIFESP.
In the South, UEM, UEPG, UNESPAR, UFPR, UFSM, UFRGS, UFSC, and UDESC are participating.
The number of positions per institution varies according to each academic unit’s capacity.
Who Can Participate in the Selection
According to the announcement, the process is primarily intended for History teachers currently working in Basic Education, especially in public networks.
To participate, it is necessary to have a full degree registered with MEC and to prove teaching experience in the field.
Teachers from private institutions may also compete, subject to the rules for reserving positions for public network professionals.
Format of the Unified Exam and Evaluation Criteria
The selection will occur through the Unified National Exam, administered in person at participating institutions.
The exam is scheduled for December 7, 2025, starting at 9:30 AM and lasting four hours.
The exam will consist of 20 objective questions and one essay question, both related to the field of History and the teaching of the subject.
The correction of the essay will be conducted only for candidates who achieve at least 60% correct answers on the objective part and are classified within the limits established in the announcement.
The final score calculation formula assigns weight 4 to the objective test and weight 6 to the essay.
The candidate must achieve a minimum score of 7.0 on the essay question and in the final average to remain in the process.
In case of a tie, the highest score on the essay will prevail, followed by age, according to defined criteria.
Experts consulted by educational institutions and postgraduate programs point out that the unified selection model follows practices adopted in national networks, which seek standardization, transparency, and regional balance in access to positions.
How to Enroll in ProfHistória 2026
The guidelines for enrollment are in the final part of the announcement. Candidates must register exclusively online, on the organizing body’s system, between August 26 and November 13, 2025.
