Drillship Norbe VIII of Foresea Sailed to RJ After 28 Days of Maintenance in Dry Dock, Ensuring High Efficiency Levels.
After a rigorous period of dry dock maintenance, the vessel Norbe VIII, belonging to Foresea, is advancing towards Rio de Janeiro. During 28 days, the drillship remained at Estaleiro Rio Grande (RS), undergoing a series of repairs and upgrades, essential to ensure its efficient performance in future operations. This meticulous process not only reinforced safety but also significantly contributed to maintaining the technical capacity required for its activities at sea. The trust placed in the technical team was crucial for the success of this endeavor.
The maintenance plan is fundamental, and the choice of dry dock was strategic for the execution of a scheduled maintenance in detail. In this context, Norbe VIII is ready to resume its journey towards Rio de Janeiro, where it will finalize the last preparations before permanently returning to its operations. This type of planning is vital to minimize any interruption in its activities, in addition to ensuring that the vessel operates at maximum possible performance. The success of this project is a testament to Foresea’s commitment to operational excellence.
Foresea, a leading company in the offshore drilling sector in Brazil, conducted the drillship Norbe VIII from Estaleiro Rio Grande (RS) to Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, October 2, after an intense period of 28 days of dry dock maintenance. During this time, cleaning, painting, and a general review were carried out – these are common operations in scheduled maintenance, which occurs every five years.

Dry Dock Maintenance: A Complex and Essential Operation
What makes this phase of maintenance special is that all these activities were carried out with the ship completely out of the water, marking the second operation of this type conducted in the country. ‘We are quite pleased with the results achieved in dry dock maintenance, a process that is always complex’, highlighted COO Heitor Gioppo. He also commented on the intense planning involved and emphasized that everything went as expected. This ensured that Foresea maintained its efficiency levels among the best in the market’, celebrated Gioppo. The forecast is that Norbe VIII will arrive at Guanabara Bay in the first half of October to finalize the scheduled maintenance.
History and Challenges of Dry Dock Maintenance in Brazil
This experience marks only the second time in the history of the Brazilian offshore industry that a large vessel has been completely removed from the water for maintenance. The first occurrence happened in 2023, when the drillship ODN I, also from Foresea, spent 66 days docked out of the water at Estaleiro Rio Grande, and the operation was equally successful.
