Electric Car Sales In Brazil Surpass 8 Thousand In September. BYD Leads, and Volvo and GWM Are Intently Contesting Second Place.

Electric Car Automotive Market Reaches New Record In Brazil

The Brazilian automotive market is experiencing a historic moment. In September, electric car sales exceeded the unprecedented mark of 8 thousand units, totaling 8,023 registrations.

The leadership once again belonged to BYD, which consolidated its absolute dominance by registering 5,687 units sold, representing a 70.9% market share. Thus, the Chinese manufacturer confirms its position as the main force in the sector in Brazil.

The impressive performance of the brand reflects not only its aggressive expansion strategy but also the growing interest among consumers in vehicles that offer better cost-effectiveness and cleaner technology.

BYD Soars and Holds 70% of Electric Car Sales

BYD has established itself as the giant of electric cars in Brazil. For the year-to-date 2025, the company accounts for three out of every four electric vehicles sold in the country.

This significant advantage shows that the Brazilian public has recognized the cost-effectiveness of the brand’s models, which combine high range, modern design, and more accessible prices compared to European competitors.

Additionally, the brand has expanded its dealership network and accelerated local production, further strengthening its presence in the national automotive market.

Volvo and GWM Engage in Fierce Battle for Second Place

As BYD pulls ahead in the lead, the second place in the rankings was marked by an intense competition. Volvo and GWM ended September separated by just one unit sold — 430 for the Swedish and 429 for the Chinese.

The competition between the two shows that the electric car automotive market in Brazil is becoming more diverse and competitive. Both are betting on models with high performance, premium finishes, and cutting-edge safety technologies.

This rivalry is expected to intensify in the coming months, especially with new launches planned for the end of the year.

General Motors Surprises With New Electric Vehicle and Gains Ground

Another surprise came from General Motors (GM), which showed strength by registering 421 units of the new Chevrolet Spark EUV.

The model made the brand achieve a 5.25% share of September sales, a significant jump compared to the year-to-date performance, which was only 1.53%.

The result reveals that the public is beginning to see GM vehicles as a balanced option between cost-effectiveness and technology, reinforcing the trend of traditional brands growing in the electric segment.

Chinese Brands Expand Presence in Brazil

In addition to the well-known giants, new Chinese brands have been gaining ground in the Brazilian automotive market. Geely and GAC, for example, occupied the fifth and sixth positions in the rankings, with 196 and 194 units sold, respectively.

Just behind them are Omoda Jaecoo and Zeekr, which also advanced in sales, consolidating the Asian dominance in the sector.

This growing presence indicates that Brazilian consumers are more receptive to the innovation and cost-effectiveness offered by models coming from China.

Renault Loses Momentum, But Remains Relevant Year-to-Date

Renault, which had been maintaining good results throughout the year, recorded a more modest performance in September. There were 74 units sold, placing it in 11th position.

Even so, the brand still holds the fourth position year-to-date 2025, demonstrating that its strategy aimed at the urban and entry-level audience continues to have recovery potential.

Electric Car Automotive Market Becomes Increasingly Competitive

The numbers from September reveal that the electric car automotive market in Brazil is in full expansion. BYD’s leadership remains strong, but the movements in the rest of the ranking show a constantly changing scenario.

Volvo and GWM continue to compete fiercely for second place, while GM and new Chinese automakers gain ground. At the same time, Brazilian consumers are beginning to value not only price but also cost-effectiveness, embedded technology, and environmental impact.

Everything indicates that the electric transition has arrived to stay and that Brazil is rapidly becoming one of the most promising markets for sustainable mobility.
