FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias starts production and promises innovations in the pre-salt
The FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias, or Mero 3, has started extracting oil and gas in the Mero's field, Libra block, pre-salt of the Santos Basin. With capacity to produce up to 180 thousand barrels per day and compress 12 million cubic meters of gas per day, the platform promises a leap in the country's energy production. This marks an essential advance for Brazil.
Mero 3: high productivity with cutting-edge technology
Once peak production is reached, the Mero field will be able to produce up to 590 barrels per day with the innovative HISEP® system, scheduled for 2028. With it, oil and gas are separated on the seabed and the CO₂-rich gas is reinjected. In this way, the FPSO reduces emissions and also alleviates surface processing, increasing sustainability.
Sustainability: FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias and cutting emissions
In addition to its production capacity, the FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias reduces its carbon footprint with the HISEP® system. Therefore, CO₂ is reinjected into the seabed, which reduces the load on gas processing on the surface and cuts emissions into the atmosphere. Thus, the operation becomes more efficient and responsible.

Libra Block Consortium: Strategic Partnership
The operation of the FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias is possible thanks to the Libra block consortium, led by Petrobras, with a 38,6% stake. Shell Brasil, TotalEnergies, CNOOC, CNPC Brasil and PPSA are participating together. This partnership is essential, as it shares risks and allows investment in cutting-edge technologies.
The impact of FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias on the energy sector
In addition to energy security, the Mero field strengthens Brazil’s position in the pre-salt layer and expands oil exports. With MISC Group, the FPSO operator, the platform reinforces international interest in the pre-salt layer and positions Brazil in a prominent position in the global energy market.
What's next for Mero's camp?
The Mero field continues to invest in innovation and productivity, including the HISEP® system, which makes offshore production more efficient and less polluting. With the increase in production from Mero 3, new development phases in the field may be announced, reinforcing the pre-salt in the energy matrix.
