The National Selection Process of Fiocruz Offers Free and Distance Specialization Focused on the Strategic Use of Data, Information Systems, and Public Management in the SUS, with Slots Distributed by Regions, Affirmative Actions, and a Start Date Scheduled for 2026.

The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) has opened the selection process for the 2026 class of the Specialization in Data and Information Systems for the SUS, a free lato sensu postgraduate course offered entirely online.

There will be 100 slots distributed across the regions of the country, with reserved spots for affirmative actions, and enrollment is expected to occur between January 5 and 21, 2026, as per the public call of the program.

The training is coordinated by the Institute of Communication and Scientific and Technological Information in Health (Icict/Fiocruz) and is part of the Data and Health Information Science Training Program for the SUS.

This initiative is conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, through the Secretary of Information and Digital Health (DataSUS/Seidigi), and was structured to enhance the use of information and technology in public management and health planning.

With 400 hours of workload, the course is scheduled to start on March 16, 2026.

The calendar indicated in the announcement also points to the conclusion of the subjects on December 4, 2026, and the delivery of the Final Paper (TCC) by March 31, 2027.

Training Focused on the Strategic Use of Data in the SUS

The course proposal is based on a broad objective.

To qualify professionals to handle health data and information systems in planning and management activities, understanding the historical and political context of information within the SUS.

In practice, this involves knowing the principles and guidelines of the Brazilian health system to understanding how national databases are produced, their limitations, and how they can be used responsibly.

Furthermore, the specialization includes content focused on the construction and interpretation of indicators, data analysis in health, and health situation analysis.

The pedagogical design has been organized into eight subjects, combining mandatory and elective components, and requires the completion of a TCC for graduation.

How the EAD Specialization of Fiocruz Works

The course will be offered in the Fiocruz Virtual Learning Environment.

The model includes synchronous moments, with defined schedules.

According to the announcement, live meetings are expected to occur on Tuesdays from 6:30 PM to 8 PM, at the opening and closing of each subject, according to a specific schedule.

The class will also have pedagogical support throughout the training course.

The mentoring is described as weekly, with mediators available on Thursdays from 7 PM to 8 PM to support students in activities and scheduled meetings.

This format aims to allow professionals from different states to participate without needing to travel.

At the same time, it maintains a minimum routine of live interaction and continued pedagogical support, which is considered essential for those balancing studies with work in public service or SUS units.

Available Emphases in the Specialization in Data and Information Systems

Within the curriculum, students can direct part of their training to a specific emphasis.

The choice occurs according to professional interests and areas of expertise.

The announcement provides for three emphasis options, which combine technology, analysis, and decision-making in the public sector.

One of the tracks is focused on Digital Health, concentrating on systems, information flows, and challenges of digital transformation in management and assistance.

The second option is Data Science Applied to Health, directed at methods and tools for analyzing databases and producing evidence.

The third emphasis, Management and Evidence-Informed Policies, focuses on using information to guide decisions, monitor results, and support public policies.

Despite the emphases, the course maintains a common core.

This core includes content on SUS, scientific research, data sources, national systems, indicators, and interpretation of health information.

Who Can Apply for Fiocruz Slots

The public call indicates that the target audience comprises individuals graduated in any field who work or wish to work in the SUS.

The expected profile includes managers, health professionals, and specialists in Information Technology.

The announcement covers different roles that deal with information, planning, and monitoring of public health actions.

The 100 slots are distributed across the regions of Brazil, considering the candidate’s place of residence as a reference.

There are also reserved spots for affirmative actions.

The announcement considers black individuals (both black and brown), indigenous people, quilombolas, people with disabilities, and transgender individuals.

Each modality has specific documentation rules and verification procedures.

In the case of black individuals, the announcement describes online hetero-identification interviews, with audio and video recording.

For individuals with disabilities, there is a provision for biopsychosocial evaluation.

Additional requirements for applications from indigenous, quilombola, and transgender individuals are also detailed.

Selection Process Stages and Classification Criteria

The selection process includes two main stages.

The first is the eligibility of the application.

The second is an online interview, which is eliminatory and classificatory.

According to the announcement, the minimum required score is 7.0, on a scale from zero to ten.

The interview evaluates the course’s contribution to the candidate’s role in the SUS.

A relevant point is the limit on invitations for this stage.

Only the first 300 candidates who complete the application and have their registration confirmed will be invited for an interview.

The order of registration considers the date and time recorded in the electronic form.

Therefore, the prior organization of documentation is highlighted as a decisive factor.

After the interviews, the final classification is determined by the obtained score.

In case of a tie, the announcement establishes the birth date as the tie-break criterion, giving priority to the older candidate.

Approved candidates beyond the number of available slots may be placed on a waiting list.

How to Apply for the Fiocruz Specialization

Applications must be made between January 5 and 21, 2026. The candidate needs to register in two mandatory environments. The SIGA Platform and the electronic form indicated in the public call.

The announcement states that “only applications made in both platforms: SIGA and Formulary will be validated”.

After submission, the results of the stages and official communications will be published on the SIGA Platform and the Icict website.

The candidate should monitor updates and keep the registration email active, including checking the spam folder.
