Living in large Brazilian cities demands increasingly rational choices when it comes to mobility. Prices were verified during the research for this article, conducted in December 2025, and may vary according to region, condition, and mileage.
The information was released by Autoesporte, according to a survey based on active listings on Mercado Livre and the official consumption data and technical specifications provided by Inmetro and manufacturers.

On Mercado Livre, there are listings starting from R$ 29,900, mainly for models from 2018 to 2020, in the Like version. As a used car, it stands out for its low initial cost, simple maintenance, and basic equipment package, which includes two front airbags, ABS brakes, electric steering, and air conditioning. In more recent units, stability control and hill-start assist are available.
Following a similar proposal but with its unique characteristics, the Renault Kwid adopts a differentiated urban strategy. The model combines a compact size with a high driving position and a good ground clearance of 18 cm, making it easier to navigate bumpy streets and uneven surfaces.
Always equipped with a 1.0 three-cylinder engine that delivers up to 71 hp and a five-speed manual transmission, the Kwid has become a benchmark in fuel consumption. According to Inmetro, it registers 15.3 km/l in the city and 15.7 km/l on the highway, with gasoline. With a length of 3.68 meters and a trunk capacity of 290 liters, it offers above-average practicality in the entry-level segment.
Units are listed on Mercado Livre starting at R$ 30,000, especially from the years 2019 to 2021. The Zen version stands out for its safety package, with four airbags, stability control, and hill-start assist, as well as electric steering, air conditioning, electric front windows, and central door locking.

Moving up a notch in size and refinement, the Chevrolet Onix of the second generation occupies a more mature position among compact hatches. With a length of 4.16 meters and a wheelbase of 2.55 m, the model offers more interior space without compromising urban drivability.

The Hyundai HB20 follows a similar line, maintaining its reputation as a balanced urban hatch. Even after the arrival of the third generation, used versions of the previous generation remain highly sought after. Equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.0 engine of up to 80 hp, the HB20 prioritizes smooth and predictable operation in traffic.
According to Inmetro, the recorded consumption is 13.1 km/l in the city and 14.6 km/l on the highway. With a length of 3.94 meters and a wheelbase of 2.53 m, the model offers good urban mobility without sacrificing interior space, something reinforced by the 300-liter trunk, one of the largest in the category.
Prices on Mercado Livre start at around R$ 53,900, with a greater supply of 2022 units in the Comfort Plus version. The package includes four airbags, stability control, hill-start assist, electric steering, a multimedia center with a touch screen, and in some units, digital air conditioning.
Recent Used Cars Offer Robustness And Good Resale Value
Among the newer models on the list, the Volkswagen Polo Track stands out for using a more modern and structurally robust platform without losing its urban logic. It measures 4.07 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.56 m, ensuring good interior space and stability for daily use.
The 1.0 MPI aspirated engine delivers up to 84 hp and maintains good consumption rates: 13.5 km/l in the city and 15.7 km/l on the highway, always with gasoline, according to Inmetro data. The five-speed manual transmission reinforces the proposal of simplicity and economy.
On Mercado Livre, listings start at R$ 56,990, usually for units from the year 2023. As a used car, the Polo Track offers four airbags, stability control, hill-start assist, electric steering, onboard computer, multifunction steering wheel, and preparation for a multimedia system.
Compact cars that are easy to maneuver, economical in fuel consumption, and with predictable maintenance remain a natural choice for those living in big cities.
