The Head Of State Proposes The Reconstruction Of A Historical Block Through Constituent Vote, Focusing On A Confederation Of Autonomous Nations With Their Own Parliament, Common Virtual Currency And Massive Investments In Artificial Intelligence, Decarbonization And High Connectivity Infrastructure

President Gustavo Petro proposed this Saturday, via social media, to recreate Gran Colombia through a constituent vote. The initiative aims to form a confederation of autonomous nations inspired by Simón Bolívar, focusing on common policies, unified governmental institutions, and industrial development.

Structure Of The Proposed Confederation

Petro used his official account to promote the idea of regional integration. He argued that the reconstruction of the historical block should occur through direct voting by the voters involved in the process.

The main goal is to establish a confederation composed of autonomous nations. According to the head of state, this union would allow for the implementation of common policies on issues directly proposed by the population.

The suggested political organization includes specific governmental institutions for the block. The project envisions the creation of a Gran Colombia Parliament, a Court of Justice, and a Council of Government.

The president compared the desired institutional model to the structure of the European Union. He also cited the system of the United States federal government as a reference for administrative organization.

The proposal seeks to transform the integrated region into an economic powerhouse. The main focuses would be large-scale tourism and global connectivity.

Axes Of Development And Technology

The trade policy of the new union would be directed towards intensive industrialization. The geographic objective is to make the territory a center of global relevance and in Latin America.

The plan emphasizes the absolute priority for generating clean energy and knowledge. The project also contemplates high-tech infrastructure applied to mobility and communication systems.

In a previous speech in Quito, Petro mentioned the fundamental pillars of the 21st century. He listed artificial intelligence and the digitalization of the economy as essential elements.

Economic decarbonization and knowledge societies were also mentioned. These factors compose the strategic foundation for sustainable development of the integrated region.

Diplomatic Treaties And Integration

The process requires the drafting of various bilateral and multilateral treaties between the countries. During the inauguration of Daniel Noboa on May 24, Petro detailed these diplomatic needs.

The measures include the establishment of common citizenship and freedom of trade. Mutual recognition of academic diplomas is also part of the proposal package for unification.

The free choice of residence for citizens and the creation of a common virtual currency are central points. The confederation must respect the ethnic and cultural diversity as well as the regional autonomy of the peoples.

Historical Context And Recent Speeches

The initiative revives the ideal of Simón Bolívar originally formulated in 1819. The union of that time included Venezuela, Ecuador, and New Granada, which included Panama as a province.

On July 23, at the VII CELAC Ministerial Meeting, the topic was addressed. Petro suggested that the project serve as an example for Latin America in terms of carbon-free energy.

The president reinforced the idea on the 215th anniversary of Colombia’s Independence on July 20. Speaking to military officials and the National Police, he described Gran Colombia as a symbol.

He concluded by stating that it is possible to build a great nation despite the differences. The new and free Gran Colombia would be, in his words, a country the size of the dreams of the population.
