According to Sindipetro, the company is ignoring the problem, which could compromise the operation and safety of the platform. Petrobras denies omission.
Sindipetro reported this Wednesday, the 21st, that workers embarked on the Merluza platform, 180 kilometers off the coast of Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo, are facing an outbreak of diarrhea and vomiting since the weekend. Petrobras claims to have provided assistance despite recently an employee was injured on the company's platform.
According to the São Paulo Coast Oil Workers Union, the suspicion is that there has been contamination of the water or food served to the workers. At least six of them had already presented the symptoms until the night of this Tuesday, 20, but there are other outsourced employees, not quantified, with the same condition.

The direction of the union representing the category reported that the situation falls under the protocol for suspected Foodborne Disease (DTA). The workers would have to be disembarked as soon as possible and the entire supply structure should be analyzed to avoid compromising the platform's operation.
O Sindipetro claims that Petrobras ignores the situation and does not want to classify the suspicion as an outbreak. "Merluza's management refused to participate in a meeting convened by representatives of Cipa (Internal Commission for Accident Prevention), scheduled for situations like this," the entity said in a statement.
“The disregard for workers' health is so open that even the book of complaints and praise that was available in the cafeteria [on the Merluza platform] is being hidden from the oil workers”, wrote the union board in the same text. They demand an action from Petrobras to repair, contain and revert the problem.
The Merluza platform has been in operation since 1993 in the Merluza and Lagosta gas fields, at a depth of 131 meters. According to Petrobras, production is shipped to the mainland through a 215-kilometer gas pipeline between the platform and the Presidente Bernardes Refinery (RPBC) in Cubatão.
Petrobras, in a note, informed that “four workers on the platform had food indisposition on Sunday”, but that they were released for the activities. According to the company, employees were treated preventively and immediately in the unit's infirmary, with medical monitoring via videoconference.
