Accident During Equipment Testing on Petrobras Platform P-31 Injured a Worker

The accident occurred on the P-31 platform, operated by Petrobras, located in the Campos Basin in northern Rio de Janeiro state, injuring employee Ícaro Leão da Silveira, 28 years old. The worker serves as an operations technician.

Ícaro suffered an exposed fracture in his leg when he was hit by a hose during a pressurization procedure and was airlifted to a hospital in Vitória, Espírito Santo. He underwent surgery and is recovering well.

According to Marcelo Nunes, Director of Communication for the North Fluminense Oil Workers Union, the company has reduced its investments in safety, which has led to an increase in accidents.

Marcelo also complained that it is becoming increasingly dangerous to work on a platform, which is a high-risk unit.

Petrobras stated in a note that the accident occurred on Monday afternoon, the 12th, during equipment testing on the P-31 and that the employee was immediately provided assistance on-site and then taken by helicopter to Vitória, where he underwent surgery and is doing well.

According to the note, the company has established an investigation committee to determine the causes of the incident.

The state-owned company did not respond regarding the reduction of investments in safety and the record of accidents, and did not provide absolute numbers, only rates, where it is possible to compare that from 2015 to 2018 there was a 53% reduction in work accident records.

Auction of Barges, Cranes, and Traction Equipment

As part of the movement to optimize the portfolio and improve capital allocation, Petrobras announced this Thursday, 15, that it will hold an electronic auction number 19.057 on September 17 for the sale of equipment including ocean barges, cranes, and traction machines.

According to the company, the sale aims to reduce costs, as there is no expectation of using these equipment in company projects.
