The price of gasoline has reached record highs, reaching R$6,98 per liter. See the updated ranking of the 5 Brazilian states with the highest prices and understand what is behind this increase
Gasoline prices have increased. The average price of a liter of gasoline in Brazil rose slightly, reaching R$6,10, slightly above the R$6,09 observed the previous week. In Rio Grande do Sul, the average price remained stable at R$6,12, according to the Price Survey of Fuel sector (LPC) carried out by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), which analyzed the period from September 8 to 14.
The variation in fuel prices in Brazil is influenced by a series of factors. According to the ANP, state and federal taxes, such as PIS/Pasep, Cofins, Cide and ICMS, are added to the price at refineries and to the profit margins of distribution and resale to make up the final price that the consumer pays in posts.
Furthermore, Petrobras, responsible for most of the fuel refining in the country, states that price adjustments are based on “detailed and independent technical analysis”. This means that external factors, such as the price of a barrel of oil on the international market and the exchange rate, also play an important role in the price of gasoline.

States with the most expensive gasoline
Some Brazilian states record prices well above the national average. Acre (AC) leads the ranking, with an average price of R$6,98 per liter of gasoline. Next comes Amazonas (AM), with R$6,43, Rondônia (RO), with R$6,38, and Roraima (RR), with R$6,09. Rio Grande do Norte (RN) closes the list of the five states with the most expensive gasoline, with a price of R$6,07 per liter.
- Acre (AC) – R$ 6,98
- Amazonas (AM) – R$ 6,43
- Rondônia (RO) – R$ 6,38
- Roraima (RR) – R$ 6,09
- Rio Grande do Norte (RN) – R$ 6,07
States with the cheapest gasoline
On the other hand, five states stand out for offering gasoline at lower prices, all below R$5,70. Paraíba (PB) registered a price of R$5,67, while Maranhão (MA) had an average price of R$5,66. Amapá (AP) appears with R$5,60, and São Paulo (SP) offers one of the cheapest gasolines in the country, with a price of R$5,59. Piauí (PI) leads the ranking of the cheapest gasoline, with an average price of R$5,56.
- Paraiba (PB) – R$ 5,67
- Maranhao (MA) – R$ 5,66
- Amapá (AP) – R$ 5,60
- Sao Paulo (SP) – R$ 5,59
- Piauí (PI) – R$ 5,56
This variation in gasoline prices reflects regional differences in taxes and distribution costs. States further away from oil production centers, such as Acre and Amazonas, tend to have more expensive fuels due to transportation logistics.
On the other hand, regions close to refineries and ports, such as São Paulo and Piauí, are able to offer more competitive prices.
With continued volatility in international markets and the influence of domestic factors such as tax burdens, Brazilian consumers should prepare for fluctuations in fuel prices in the coming weeks.
