Brazilians await clarification on compensation for alleged data leak at Serasa

A piece of news that caused a stir on social media concerns the alleged compensation of R$30 for Brazilians, following a data leak involving Serasa. The expectation of receiving this amount made many run after information, but, as always, not everything is what it seems.

Serasa warns of scam involving data leak

Recently, a message shared on social media suggested that Serasa would be obliged to pay Brazilian citizens R$30 in compensation due to a data leak. The alleged payment would be directed to those who had their information leaked by the institution in an improper manner. However, the Serasa issued an official statement denying this information.

According to Lila Cunha, an expert at the FDR portal, the story of the compensation is, in fact, a scam. Serasa reported that there is no court decision that determines the payment of R$30 due to a data leak. The institution denied the occurrence of the alleged information leak.

Understand how the scam works

The scam is relatively sophisticated: videos on social media show montages and false information, trying to convince citizens that they are entitled to this compensation. The fraud is based on an alleged data leak disclosed by a specialized institute, which would have taken legal action against Serasa to promote the payment. However, there is no official list of affected people, and citizens interested in “checking” whether they are entitled to compensation are directed to platforms where they must enter personal data such as name, email, telephone number and CPF.

Serasa Recommendations

Serasa recommends that Brazilians be alert and suspicious of any advertisement of this type, especially when it involves high amounts and requests for personal data. The institution reinforces that links from unknown sources can lead to the theft of sensitive information, which can later be used in financial fraud.. Avoiding clicking on unknown links and checking the veracity of information on official channels is essential to ensure security.

This story serves as a warning about the dangers of sharing false information unbridledly, and how the data leak scam could end up harming many unsuspecting Brazilians.

And you, what did you think of Serasa's statement?
