If you are passionate about trucks and technology, get ready for a journey through time and space with the incredible story of Tatra trucks, which are arriving with everything in Brazil.
Tatra trucks are manufactured by one of the automotive brands oldest and most innovative in the world. Founded in the 19th century by Ignatz Schustala, a Czech-German businessman, Tatra started with carriages and wagons before venturing into railway vehicles and automobiles. And that's how the first rough trucks were born in Brazil!
From the beginning, Tatra innovated with the T11, a compact equipped with an air-cooled two-cylinder boxer engine and a chassis that became known as the “backbone”. This innovative design served as the basis for virtually all of the company's future products, including the first Tatra T23 and T24 trucks introduced in 1926.
Tatra developed the T81 model
During World War II, Tatra developed the T81 model, a heavy truck with 6x4 traction and a 8-liter V12,5 diesel engine, which soon became essential for German military operations. Later, the T111, launched in 1942, proved to be a vital vehicle during and after the war, with its 6x4 or 6x6 traction and load capacity of 22 tons.

The T111 was built to face extreme conditions, from the harsh winters of Europe to the arid deserts of North Africa. Its air-cooled V12 engine eliminated the cooling and freezing problems common in other vehicles, making it extremely reliable and robust.
After the war, Tatra continued to innovate with models such as the T138 in 1959 and the T813 in 1967. The latter was famous for its versatility and off-road capability, available in 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 drivetrains. standing out in both civil and military use.
Tatra trucks in Brazil
With the Velvet Revolution in 1989 and the subsequent division of Czechoslovakia in 1992, Tatra maintained its truck production, discontinuing car manufacturing in the 90s. In 2011, Tatra formed a partnership with the North American group Paccar, bringing new opportunities and markets.
In 2023, Tatra Bras, a Brazilian group, began importing Tatra military trucks to Latin America. And the expectation is that these crude trucks in Brazil will soon also be available for the civil market. With their robustness and advanced technology, will they conquer our roads?
For sure. It took a long time to arrive.
