The Tatra trucks are manufactured by one of the oldest and most innovative automotive brands in the world. Founded in the 19th century by Ignatz Schustala, a Czech-German entrepreneur, Tatra started with carriages and wagons before venturing into railway vehicles and automobiles. From the beginning, Tatra innovated with the T11, a compact equipped with an air-cooled two-cylinder boxer engine and a chassis that became known as the “backbone”. This innovative design served as the basis for virtually all future products of the company, including the first Tatra T23 and T24 trucks launched in 1926.
Tatra Developed The T81 Model
During World War II, Tatra developed the T81 model, a heavy truck with 6×4 drive and a 12.5-liter V8 diesel engine, which soon became essential for German military operations. Later, the T111, launched in 1942, proved to be a vital vehicle during and after the war, with its 6×4 or 6×6 drive and a load capacity of 22 tons.
