Leader in the Brazilian Retail, the Hyundai Creta Closed 2025 in a Market Marked by Changes in Sales Profile, Advancement of Direct Negotiations, and Greater Competition Among SUVs, While the Sector Awaits Expectations for New Engines and Automakers’ Strategies.

The Hyundai Creta ended 2025 as the most registered vehicle in Brazilian retail, with 58,560 units registered in this category, according to consolidated sector data.

The performance kept the SUV at the top of final consumer sales for the third consecutive year, in a market that showed growth and, at the same time, significant changes in the purchasing profile throughout the year.

However, Creta’s leadership varies according to the adopted criteria.

When total sales are considered, which include retail and direct negotiations with companies, the Volkswagen Polo ranks ahead in the overall 2025 ranking.

The difference between the cuts helps explain why automotive market surveys present distinct results on which model was, in fact, the best-selling in the country.

Direct Sales Gain Ground in the Brazilian Automotive Market

Throughout 2025, direct sales surpassed retail in Brazil.

This category accounted for 48.6% of the 2,549,462 cars and light commercial vehicles registered that year, while the remainder corresponded to purchases made, mainly, by individuals.

The trend is closely monitored by manufacturers and dealerships because it influences commercial policies, discounts, and launch strategies.

In the ranking by automakers, Fiat led the Brazilian market, with 14.61% market share, followed by Volkswagen, with 14.26%, and Chevrolet, with 10.20%.

Hyundai held 8.56% market share, while BYD reached 8.19% and surpassed Toyota, which recorded 8.13%, according to sector data.

The result reinforces the growing presence of brands with electrified portfolios in the country and intensifies the competition between traditional manufacturers and new entrants.

Another relevant data point from 2025 was the predominance of SUVs in retail.

Among the 20 best-selling models to final consumers, 14 belonged to this segment, confirming the public’s preference for SUVs and crossovers in recent years.

Hyundai Creta Leads Retail and Stands Out in the Overall Ranking

The Creta concentrated nearly 77% of its registrations in retail, with 58,560 units destined for individual consumers.

In total, combining direct sales and retail, the model reached 76,156 units registered in 2025, according to the same database.

This composition difference explains the market’s reading of the SUV’s performance.

While some models have a higher total volume driven by contracts with rental companies and fleet operators, others stand out for individual buyer demand.

In institutional statements, Hyundai has emphasized the importance of retail for the brand’s strategy in the country.

According to Hyundai Motor Brasil’s Executive Sales Director, Oscar Castro, “leadership among individuals reflects the choice of the consumer who acquires the vehicle for everyday use.”

Following the retail ranking, the Honda HR-V recorded 48,420 units sold to final consumers in 2025.

The Volkswagen Polo appeared right behind, with 46,562 units, while the Chevrolet Onix totaled 42,839 in the same category.

The numbers indicate that compact hatches remain relevant in the Brazilian market, despite the consistent expansion of SUVs.

Creta Engines and Expectations for 2026

The current generation of the Creta was launched in Brazil in October 2024.

Since then, the model has been offered in five versions.

The entry-level and intermediate configurations use a 1.0 turbo GDI flex engine, with a power of 120 hp.

The top-of-the-line version features a 1.6 turbo GDI engine, with 193 hp, powered exclusively by gasoline, according to information released by Hyundai.

In this context, industry publications have begun reporting the possibility of the Creta gaining a version equipped with a 1.6 turbo flex engine in 2026.

According to these investigations, the proposal would be to expand the options in the more complete versions, such as Ultimate and N Line, catering to consumers seeking greater performance along with fuel flexibility.

So far, Hyundai has not officially confirmed the adoption of this engine, nor has it released technical specifications or detailed timelines.

Therefore, the potential arrival of the 1.6 turbo flex is treated by the market as a possibility under analysis, and not as an announced launch.

Competition Among SUVs and Progress of Electric Vehicles

The 2025 landscape also highlighted a greater diversity of models and technologies in the sales ranking.

The BYD registered the Song, including the Pro and Plus versions, and approached SUVs from traditional brands in retail.

Additionally, the Dolphin Mini was the only 100% electric model among the 20 best-selling vehicles to final consumers, indicating a gradual advancement of this type of propulsion in the Brazilian market.

Meanwhile, traditional manufacturers continue adjusting their strategies to balance sales to final consumers and large volumes destined for companies.

Industry analysts point out that this dynamic is likely to influence decisions regarding engine options, versions, and pricing positioning in the coming years.

With the Creta leading retail and the expectation for an expanded engine range, the compact SUV segment remains competitive.

If the new version materializes, the move could directly impact the competition with similarly priced models, both in performance and price.
