The month of August 2024 brought a slight drop in the automobile market in Brazil, with passenger car registrations showing a decline of almost 4% compared to July. Even with this drop, some business stood out, such as the Volkswagen Polo, which led sales during the period. Other vehicles such as the Chevrolet Onix and Fiat Argo also remained among the best-selling cars, reinforcing their positions in the national market.
Volkswagen Polo: the best-selling car
The Volkswagen Polo was the highlight of the month, with 14.274 units registered throughout Brazil. The model, known for its versatility, was the best-selling passenger car, consolidating itself as the preferred car of Brazilians.
The Polo range has nine different versions, the most affordable being the Track and Robust configurations, with a starting price of R$90.590. These options place the Polo among the cheapest cars in Brazil. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line version, the GTS, costs R$155.990 and offers the 250 TSI engine with 150 horsepower, guaranteeing differentiated performance.

In second place in the August ranking, the Chevrolet Onix sold 9.018 units, a considerable increase compared to July, when it registered 7.423 units sold. The Chevrolet hatchback continues to be a popular choice among Brazilians, standing out both for its affordability and engine options.
The Onix is available with an 1.0-horsepower 82 engine in the entry-level versions, while the more complete configurations come equipped with a 1.0 turbo engine, which offers 116 horsepower. In addition to the good sales performance, Chevrolet has already announced that it will launch a new model in 2026, increasing consumer expectations.
Fiat Argo: Highlight on the Podium
Rounding out the top-selling cars in August, the Fiat Argo sold 7.768 units. The Italian automaker's compact hatchback has been a consistent choice among Brazilian consumers. The entry-level Argo has a 1.0-horsepower 75 engine, while the top-of-the-line version has a 1.3-horsepower 107 engine and automatic transmission, providing a more comfortable and complete driving experience.
The Growth of SUVs
In addition to hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen Polo, Chevrolet Onix and Fiat Argo, an interesting fact is the continued growth of SUVs in the national market. Of the 20 most registered passenger cars in August, 11 of them were SUVs, showing a clear preference among Brazilians for larger and more versatile vehicles. Among the best-selling models are the Volkswagen T-Cross, with 7.118 units, the Chevrolet Tracker, with 6.416, and the Hyundai Creta, which registered 5.962 units.
