The New Volkswagen Pickup Is About to Hit the Automotive Market, Ready to Compete Directly with Rivals Toro and Montana. Promising to Be an Affordable Option, the Model Impresses with More Than 245 Horsepower, Combining Strength and Performance at a Competitive Price.
The new Volkswagen Tarok 2025 pickup will disrupt the peaceful nights of Fiat Toro and Montana. The brand took some time, but in the end, the new affordable pickup will finally come to fruition and will hit the automotive market soon, as part of an investment of over 5 billion reais that the German automaker will make in Brazil by 2028.
New Mid-Size Pickup Rival of Toro and Montana Arrives in the Automotive Market in Mid-2025
Recently, several very interesting pieces of information about the new Volkswagen pickup were leaked. The first of these is the name, Tarok, which is how it has been referred to internally and has been presented to the entire team and manufacturers with the same name as the concept that was introduced in 2018 during the last edition of the São Paulo Auto Show.
Other information pertains to its platform, which will be the MQB, the same used in the compact SUV T-Cross, which, in this case, is different from the concept built on the original mqb base, an intermediate car platform, while the MQB 0 belongs to smaller and more cost-effective production vehicles. Another official piece of information is that the new Volkswagen pickup will be a national Brazilian pickup, just like the Toro and not coming from Argentina, as the original project based on the Taos suggested.

Our Tarok, which will soon arrive in the automotive market, will be the affordable pickup of the T-Cross, and the metalworkers’ union of greater Curitiba revealed that they participated in the presentation of the pickup for factory employees in São José dos Pinhais in Paraná, and everything indicates that the Montana rival will be produced there at the largest and main factory of the automaker in the country.
New Affordable VW Pickup Will Have Flex Hybrid Engine
The design of the new Volkswagen pickup in the automotive market will be very similar to that of the concept, featuring a full LED optical set both front and rear. We will also have larger wheels than those of the T-Cross, measuring 18 inches, and something that would be very interesting is if the automaker brought the modularity of the bed invading the cabin and expanding the space for transporting larger loads to the production pickup, which would be a significant mechanical differential.
We will also have news, and along with the arrival of the Tarok, Volkswagen revealed that we will have a new hybrid engine that is unprecedented here in the Brazilian automotive market. The combustion-based unit is an evolution of the current 1.4 turbo four-cylinder. This will be the 1.5 turbo four-cylinder that will feature Flex technology, known as Evo 2.

The block is larger and operates with less effort, resulting in greater fuel economy. Another highlight is that this Evo 2 features a timing chain and abandons the timing belt, which is currently criticized in the existing 1.4 TSI engines from Volkswagen abroad.
New Volkswagen Pickup Promises Up to 245 Horsepower
This Evo 2 unit can come in several hybrid configurations, and one of the options is the mild hybrid with a 48 V battery that replaces the alternator and delivers 160 horsepower and the same 25.5 kgfm of torque.
What’s even more interesting is that in the stronger plug-in hybrid configurations, this same 1.5 block can generate over 245 horsepower, combined with the electric motor and 38.7 kgfm of torque, which are indeed impressive numbers.
It is still unknown which configuration the new affordable pickup will use in the automotive market, only that the model will be hybrid and Flex, which are already great news. This new hybrid flex unit will be produced in São Carlos and has also been confirmed by the Metalworkers’ Union of the city, located in the interior of São Paulo.
