Volkswagen's new pickup truck is about to hit the automotive market, ready to compete directly with its rivals Toro and Montana. Promising to be an affordable option, the model impresses with over 245 horsepower, combining strength and performance at a competitive price.

The new Volkswagen Tarok 2025 pickup truck will keep Fiat Toro and Montana awake at night. The brand took its sweet time, but in the end, the new cheap pickup truck will finally come to fruition and will hit the automotive market soon, as part of an investment of more than 5 billion reais that the German automaker will invest in Brazil by 2028.

New mid-size pickup truck rivaling Toro and Montana hits the automotive market in mid-2025

Recently, several very interesting pieces of information have been leaked regarding Volkswagen's new pickup truck. The first of these is the name, Tarok, which is how it has been called internally and is being presented to the entire team and manufacturers with the same name as the concept that was presented in 2018 during the last edition of the São Paulo Auto Show.

Other information is for your platform, which in this case will be the MQB, the same as that used in T-Cross compact SUV, which in this case is different from the concept, which was made on the original MQB base, a platform for intermediate cars, while the MQB 0 belongs to the compact and lower cost production. Another official piece of information is that the new Volkswagen pickup will be a national Brazilian pickup, just like the Toro and not coming from Argentina, as the original project based on the Taos suggested.

Our Tarok, which will soon be available on the automotive market, will be the cheapest pickup truck in the world. T-Cross and the metalworkers' union of greater Curitiba revealed that they participated in the presentation of the pickup truck to employees at the São José dos Pinhais factory in Paraná and everything leads us to believe that Montana's rival will be produced there at the automaker's largest and main factory here in the country.

VW's new low-cost pickup truck will have a Flex hybrid engine

The look of Volkswagen's new pickup truck in the automotive market will be very similar to the concept, featuring the entire optical set, whether front or rear, full LED. We will also have larger wheels than those of the T-cross, with 18 inches and something that would be very interesting is if the automaker brought to the production pickup, as it was in the Concept, modularity of the bucket invading the cabin and expanding the space for transporting larger loads, which would be a great mechanical difference.

We will also have news and, along with the arrival of the Tarok, Volkswagen revealed that we will have a new hybrid engine, never before seen in the Brazilian automotive market. The combustion-based engine is an evolution of the current 1.4 turbo four-cylinder. It is the 1.5 Turbo four-cylinder that will feature Flex technology, called the Evo 2.

The block is larger and works with less effort, resulting in greater fuel economy. Another highlight is that this Evo 2 has a timing chain and abandons the timing belt, which is so criticized today in the current 1.4 TSI engines from Volks abroad.

Volkswagen's new pickup promises up to 245 horsepower

This Evo 2 set can come in several hybrid configurations and one of the options is the mild hybrid with a 48 V battery that replaces the alternator and produces 160 horsepower and the same 25,5 kgfm of torque.

The coolest thing is that in the strongest plug-in hybrid configurations, this same 1.5 block can generate more than 245 horsepower, combined with the electric motor and 38,7 kgfm of torque, which are truly impressive numbers.

It is not yet known what configuration the new cheap pickup truck will use in the automotive market, only that the model will be hybrid and Flex, which is already great news. This new hybrid flex set will be produced in São Carlos and has also already been confirmed by the Metalworkers Union of the city, which is located in the interior of São Paulo.

This Tarok is very welcome! I suggest creative spaces, including under the rear seats! Good hooks for securing loads, a power outlet in the cargo bed and several storage spaces, including cup holders when the rear lid is opened for a seat or table.
