The Works of the Brazil-Paraguay Integration Bridge Started in August Last Year and Are Expected to Be Completed by Mid-2022.
The expectation is that by the end of December, fifty percent of the construction of the new Brazil-Paraguay Integration Bridge will be completed. Considered one of the most important structural works for the region and, consequently, for the entire Mercosur, the bridge connecting Brazil and Paraguay began construction before the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and survived that period – the most severe in recent times from an economic perspective as well. Throughout 2020, it has directly employed 452 people on both banks of the Paraná River, in Brazil and Paraguay.
Once completed, the second bridge between the two countries will further stimulate regional development, facilitating cargo logistics and improving traffic in downtown Foz do Iguaçu and on the Friendship Bridge.

Project
The National Department of Transportation Infrastructure (Dnit) is responsible for overseeing the project, managed by the government of Paraná through the State Department of Highways (DER).
The total investment is approximately R$ 463 million, considering the works on the structure, expropriations, and the construction of a perimeter road on the Brazilian side, which will connect the bridge to BR-277.
Of the cable-stayed type, the bridge will be 760 meters long, with a clear span of 470 meters, and will have a lane width of 3.7 meters in each lane, a shoulder of 3 meters, and a sidewalk of 1.70 meters.
Under the responsibility of the Paraguayan government, a third bridge between the two countries will be built over the Paraguay River, connecting the city of Porto Murtinho in Mato Grosso do Sul to Carmelo Peralta in Paraguay. It will be funded by the Paraguayan side of Itaipu and is expected to facilitate Brazil’s access to the Pacific Ocean and open markets for the productions of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.
