Futuristic Mansion In The California Desert Impresses For Operating Totally Off The Grid, Combining Solar Energy, Wind Turbine And Minimalist Architecture On A Secluded 160-Acre Lot

The Saturn Haus emerges as one of the most impressive properties in the California desert. Completely off the grid and valued at 15 million dollars, the mansion stands out for its futuristic design and extreme isolation.

Located on the outskirts of Yucca Valley, it occupies a 160-acre lot and offers four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and ample natural light.

The Search For Isolation In The Desert

The residence was born from the desire of writer Wendy Wacker for a secluded retreat. After leaving Chicago in the 1990s and living for a period in Palm Springs, she decided to seek something even more remote, but not completely away from civilization.

The choice fell on a flat lot that cost only 85 thousand dollars, located near Joshua Tree National Park.

The charm of the location was immediate. Wacker told the Wall Street Journal that the landscape looked otherworldly, with a vast sky, low clouds, and an almost tangible atmosphere. This scenario inspired the development of a unique property.

The Creation Of The Saturn Haus

With an investment of 7 million dollars, the Saturn Haus was completed in 2017. The space was nicknamed by the owner herself and gained fame as a minimalist sanctuary powered by solar energy.

The house operates using a wind turbine, photovoltaic solar panels, and storage batteries.

The thermal technology applied in the project ensures comfort in any season. The concrete floor is heated and the 23-meter pool maintains a constant temperature, according to information released by Robb Report.

Structure Divided Into Connected Modules

The property uses concrete, steel, and glass to form a modern composition. Its various parts connect through a covered walkway, reinforcing the sense of integration with the landscape.

Among the spaces included in the project are four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a writing studio, a music studio, a wellness suite, and two garages—one for a car and another covered for multiple vehicles.

This additional area also features a rooftop terrace, ideal for stargazing or enjoying the desert sun. The location, however, requires extra care for sun protection.

A Refuge That Looks Like A House Of The Future

The bold design, energy autonomy, and isolation make the Saturn Haus a building that seems to come from the future. For those seeking peace and sustainability in the midst of the desert, the property represents a rare and captivating offering.
