According to the Secretary of Economic Development and Labor of the State, Maia Júnior, regulation, followed by the launch of energy purchase auctions from offshore production, is the initial structure necessary for the market to establish itself in Brazil.
“From there, we move to the implementation of projects for manufacturing structures and components of the offshore chain and soon after, the industry, with energy production projects.”
Ceará Needs to Strongly Work on Port Infrastructure to Ensure the Capacity to Move Offshore Supply Chain Equipment
Unlike onshore, due to the gigantic size of blades, towers, and turbines, the economic agents of Ceará will need to work strongly on the state’s port infrastructure to ensure the capacity to move the equipment of the offshore supply chain.
To this end, representatives of the Ceará government are orchestrating visits by technical teams from the Port of Pecém and the Port of Rotterdam to the port of Esbjerg in Denmark, a reference for the offshore niche.
Vestas Needs at Least Seven Years to Start the Production of Offshore Wind Turbines and Generate Jobs in Ceará
According to the largest wind turbine manufacturer in the world, even if the offshore regulation already existed in Brazil, it would still take about seven years to begin production. “There needs to be time, development, before things happen. We are currently working on what could happen in Ceará in the next seven years,” highlights Maia.
Despite all the arrangements to attract the construction of the second industrial plant for wind turbines in Ceará, it is still uncertain.
“They have every interest in continuing the partnership, I cannot guarantee that (the plant will be built in) Ceará because there is still much ground to cover. But we discussed extensively the conditions for them to complete their studies and (identify) the right moment for a second industrial plant in Ceará.”
Vestas, which has had a factory in Aquiraz for over five years, in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza (RMF), stated that it is quite satisfied with the market performance in the region.
