Known as “Promised Land,” Oprah Winfrey’s mansion in Montecito, California, sits on 70 acres, is valued at more than US$ 100 million, and houses a garden with more than 600 rose bushes, designed by Dan Bifano, in addition to a tea house focused on meditation and personal balance.
Oprah Winfrey’s mansion in Montecito, California, is more than a residence: it is a personal sanctuary that reflects the host’s lifestyle and philosophy. Known as “Promised Land,” the property spans approximately 70 acres and combines classic landscaping with neo-Georgian design. The site includes lush gardens, an orchard, a guest house, sports courts, and a koi pond, but the highlight is the rose garden with more than 600 rose bushes, where her famous tea house is located.
Designed to offer refuge and introspection, the property is surrounded by mountains and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Oprah considers this space essential for her emotional and spiritual health, maintaining a routine of meditation, reading, and silence. “Knowing this place exists restores me,” she stated in previous interviews about the environment that has become part of her personal identity and a symbol of achievement.
The Rose Garden and “Hallelujah Lane”

The rose garden is the jewel of “Promised Land.” With more than 600 rose bushes, the space was designed by renowned landscaper Dan Bifano, who has also worked on projects for Barbra Streisand and Tom Ford.

The new “monster” submarine of the United States Navy weighs nearly 8,000 tons, is 115 meters long, does not require fuel, and can operate for long periods submerged; meet the USS Massachusetts (SSN-798), which arrives to strengthen the military power of the U.S. amid global tensions.
The area occupies about 1 acre (approximately 4,000 m²) and was designed to maintain flowers in different stages of bloom throughout the year.
The central white gravel path leads visitors through symmetrical flower beds, surrounded by shrubs and cypress trees, to a copper fountain at the garden’s focal point.
Each rose bush was selected for its color and fragrance, with varieties such as Sambreuil and Brass Band, the latter featuring intense orange tones.
One of the most symbolic sections is Hallelujah Lane, a floral trail dedicated to Oprah’s grandmother, who used to dream of a place like this for her granddaughter.
The Tea House and Oprah’s Personal Refuge

At the heart of the garden is the private tea house, one of the most intimate spaces on the property.
The structure, built of wood and glass, was designed to integrate with the natural landscape and provide the best view of the ocean and the Santa Barbara mountains.
It is a place reserved only for moments of reflection no work meetings are allowed there, by the host’s personal rule.
The interior of the house is decorated with green wicker armchairs, rustic furniture, and large windows that allow natural light to fill the space.
Wisterias wrap around the entrance, creating a fragrant passage. “I don’t need to come here every day; just knowing this place exists makes me feel at peace,” Oprah has stated about the space.
The Main Mansion and the Value of the “Promised Land”

The main mansion, measuring 23,000 square feet (about 2,100 m²), follows the neo-Georgian style and combines luxury and sobriety.
It features six bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, ten fireplaces, two home theaters, a library, and a spacious kitchen, considered the heart of the home.
The property was purchased for US$ 50 million in 2001 and, with expansions over the years, is now estimated to be worth between US$ 88 and 100 million.
The property also includes fruit and avocado orchards, a koi pond, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a wine cellar, and a guest house of about 557 m².
In 2015, Oprah purchased the equestrian farm Seamair Farm, spanning 23 acres, adding productive and leisure areas to the “Promised Land.”
The Symbolism of the Name and the Connection to Nature

The name “Promised Land” was chosen by Oprah herself as a reference to her personal and spiritual achievement after decades of work and overcoming obstacles.
For her, the home is a reflection of freedom earned after years of struggle and social advancement. In her words, it is “a place where the soul breathes.”
Beyond its aesthetic value, every detail of the property reflects Oprah’s connection to self-awareness, balance, and time for pause.
The garden is cultivated according to sustainability principles, and the landscaping was planned to harmonize aesthetics and environmental preservation.
The result is a space that combines sophistication and purpose, where luxury serves contemplation.
