The site includes lush gardens, an orchard, a guest house, sports courts, and a koi pond, but the highlight is the rose garden with more than 600 rose bushes, where her famous tea house is located.
Designed to offer refuge and introspection, the property is surrounded by mountains and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The interior of the house is decorated with green wicker armchairs, rustic furniture, and large windows that allow natural light to fill the space.
Wisterias wrap around the entrance, creating a fragrant passage. “I don’t need to come here every day; just knowing this place exists makes me feel at peace,” Oprah has stated about the space.
The Main Mansion and the Value of the “Promised Land”
The main mansion, measuring 23,000 square feet (about 2,100 m²), follows the neo-Georgian style and combines luxury and sobriety.
It features six bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, ten fireplaces, two home theaters, a library, and a spacious kitchen, considered the heart of the home.
The property was purchased for US$ 50 million in 2001 and, with expansions over the years, is now estimated to be worth between US$ 88 and 100 million.
The property also includes fruit and avocado orchards, a koi pond, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a wine cellar, and a guest house of about 557 m².
In 2015, Oprah purchased the equestrian farm Seamair Farm, spanning 23 acres, adding productive and leisure areas to the “Promised Land.”
The Symbolism of the Name and the Connection to Nature
The name “Promised Land” was chosen by Oprah herself as a reference to her personal and spiritual achievement after decades of work and overcoming obstacles.
