Subsea 7 Wins Billion-Dollar Contract to Manufacture Submarine Structure for FPSO Duque de Caxias from Brazil’s Largest Oil Company

The giant Subsea 7, a global reference in submarine projects and services, announced in a relevant fact on the morning of May 24 that it has just secured a billion-dollar contract with Brazil’s largest oil company, Petrobras. The deal involves the submarine project of the FPSO Duque de Caxias — Mero 3.

According to the oil company, the scope of the service includes engineering, manufacturing, installation, and pre-commissioning of 80 kilometers of rigid risers and flowlines, 60 kilometers of flexible service lines, 50 kilometers of umbilicals, and associated infrastructure, as well as the installation of the FPSO anchoring system.

Though it did not disclose the exact value of the contract, Subsea 7 informed that the deal closed between US$ 500 million and US$ 750 million. According to the Norwegian company, management and engineering of the project will begin immediately at its offices in Rio de Janeiro and Paris.

The manufacturing of the pipes will take place at Subsea 7’s base in Ubu (ES). Still according to Subsea 7, offshore operations to install the structures are expected to occur in 2023 and 2024. For these activities, Subsea 7 will use its fleet of rigid pipe vessels.

“This contract is based on our strong and collaborative relationship with Petrobras and on the track record of executing large EPCI projects globally. Subsea 7 looks forward to working closely with Petrobras to successfully deliver the project,” celebrated the company’s vice president in Brazil, Marcelo Xavier.
