With an Investment of R$ 45.8 Million, Santa Maria Aerodrome Will Have an Expanded Runway, New Systems, and Will Become an Air Reference in MS.
The Government of Mato Grosso do Sul, through the Seilog (Secretariat of Infrastructure and Logistics), has opened a bidding process to restore and expand the Estância Santa Maria Aerodrome in Campo Grande.
The opening of proposals is scheduled for October 8, and the expected investment reaches R$ 45.8 million.
The goal is to modernize the structure and ensure operations of larger aircraft, strengthening the strategic role of regional aviation.

Currently, the aerodrome has a runway that is 1,500 meters long and 30 meters wide, certified for daytime and nighttime operations under visual flight rules.
The nighttime lighting already allows flights after sunset, but the new project promises a significant leap in capacity.
Planned Works and Impact
The plan includes expanding the runway to 2,000 meters, allowing for the operation of larger aircraft.
Additionally, there will be an expansion of the taxiway and the apron, along with the installation of the PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) system, which assists landings and approaches, increasing operational safety.
The modernization goes beyond the technical sector. The project includes the construction of an access booth and a reception area for passengers in front of the apron, providing more comfort during boarding and disembarking.
The expectation is that the current 7,000 annual air movements will surpass the 9,000 mark after completion.
Repercussion
The state secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Guilherme Alcântara de Carvalho, stated that the work will take the aerodrome to another level. “We are preparing the Capital to receive more flights and provide greater safety for operations. It is an investment that expands the capacity of the aerodrome and strengthens the logistical and economic development of the State,” he said.
The logistics superintendent of Seilog, Derick Machado, also highlighted the importance of the initiative. “As aviation keeps pace with the growth of MS, it is natural and necessary for the State to undergo improvements and modernize its logistical infrastructure, and aerodromes are fundamental pieces for this quick and attractive access to competitiveness,” he declared.
Strategic Consolidation
With the completion of the project, the Estância Santa Maria Aerodrome is expected to consolidate as a strategic hub for regional and executive aviation in Mato Grosso do Sul.
The work expands capacity, transforms the structure into an airport, and creates conditions to attract investments, tourism, and business, reinforcing the Capital’s role as a connection hub in the Midwest.
