Even With the Coronavirus Pandemic, Agriculture Managed to Remain and Also Increase Employment Rates in Brazil.

According to data recently released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Agriculture is one of the main contributors to increasing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the country.

Other Interesting News

From the moment the seed is planted in the soil until the food reaches the tables of Brazilians, the responsibility lies with the agricultural sector.

In short, by increasing the GDP, the sector is contributing to improving the country’s economy, whether directly or indirectly.

When analyzing the GDP related to this sector, it was quite noticeable that in the first quarter of 2021, there was an increase of 5.7% compared to the 4th quarter of the previous year and 5.2% compared to the same period in 2020.

150 Thousand Jobs Were Created in the Agricultural Sector

According to data released by the New General Register of Employment and Unemployment (Caged), in May, the number of new jobs created was 280,666.

In June, this number was updated, reaching a total of 309,114 jobs in the agricultural sector.

One of the factors that may have significantly contributed to this increase was the arrival and application of the vaccine, as well as the flexibility of social distancing rules. Thus, generating a total of 151,252 new job openings with signed contracts.

According to Bruno Lucchi, technical director of the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA), all this strength comes not only from one source but from collaborative efforts.

Among the support base, we can highlight: cultivation products, distribution services, among many others. While other sectors were brutally affected, agriculture managed to remain stable in the first half of 2020. In total, 62,419 jobs were recorded.

For many, this sector is being greatly envied. After all, it fulfilled its mission of remaining stable, performing its functions, and generating work for all Brazilians. If others were to invest in the same manner, the country could yield significant profits in the end.

Agricultural Sector Gains Greater Visibility During the Pandemic

Even though it was an extremely difficult period, this was by far the best year for this sector in recent years. Its participation in the national index also showed notable growth. In 2019, the index was 20.5%, while in 2020, it increased by 6.1%, totaling 26.6%.

To better clarify these percentages, let’s try to visualize them in numbers. Last year (2020), Brazil’s GDP amounted to R$ 7.45 trillion. When divided by each sector responsible for this amount, agriculture accounted for R$ 2 trillion of this total.

Thanks to this value, the country managed to stand out greatly, being considered one of the largest food producers globally. Even though the pandemic affected many countries since 2020, causing food shortages in some of them, Brazil remained intact in this regard.

This information was reinforced based on the knowledge of researchers from the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (EMBRAPA), who revealed that even amidst a national crisis in some sectors, the country has resources to feed 1 billion people.

There is no secret to such growth, after all, we were going through one of the most difficult periods in history, not only in Brazilian territory but worldwide.

Therefore, those responsible for this sector managed to work correctly, focusing on both the revenues generated from Agriculture and the creation of new jobs.
