Airbnb has partnered with Welcome Pickups to offer private airport transfers to accommodations in cities like Paris, Bali, and Mexico City, with a fixed price and no fee for the guest, in the latest step of a strategy aimed at generating $1 billion per year by transforming the app into a complete travel service.

The Airbnb has just launched a private transfer service in a private car that allows guests to book transportation from the airport to their accommodation directly through the app. The new service is available starting this Tuesday in over 125 cities across Asia, Europe, and Latin America, including Paris, Bali, and Mexico City, in partnership with Welcome Pickups, a British company specializing in airport transfers. The fare is fixed, determined by the type of vehicle, and Airbnb does not charge any additional fee to the guest for the service.

According to information from the Bloomberg portal, this move is part of a broader strategy by Airbnb to transform itself into something that goes far beyond a lodging platform. The CEO Brian Chesky stated that complementary services, combined with the “Experiences” already offered by Airbnb, could generate $1 billion or more in annual revenue although he warned that it may take years for these new product lines to become a significant part of the business. Before the official launch, Airbnb conducted a test in early 2026 in Europe and Asia, where thousands of guests used the service and gave an average rating of 4.96 stars.

How the Airbnb private transfer works: from the airport to the door of the accommodation

The process is simple. After booking a stay at Airbnb in one of the 125 eligible cities, the guest will see the option to schedule a private car in the “Trips” tab of the app.

It is possible to choose the vehicle based on the number of passengers and luggage volume, check the reservation details, and make changes all without leaving the Airbnb app. There is also the option of a meet-and-greet service at the arrival location, with the driver waiting for the guest holding a sign with their name.

The prices are fixed and set by Welcome Pickups before the trip, meaning the guest knows exactly how much they will pay before boarding. There are no extra fees charged by Airbnb, and customer service during the transfer is the responsibility of Welcome Pickups.

The user receives the driver’s contact information in advance for any questions or requests. According to Alexandros Trimis, CEO of Welcome Pickups, the idea is to make arriving at a new destination exciting, not stressful.

Airbnb wants to be a complete hotel on your phone: chef, massage, gym, and now transportation

The private transfer is just the latest addition to Airbnb’s “Services” offering, launched in May 2025.

The platform already allows travelers to hire meals prepared by private chefs, massage sessions, workouts with personal trainers, and hair, makeup, and nail services all booked within the Airbnb app. These are services that, until recently, were restricted to luxury hotels.

Dave Stephenson, Airbnb’s business director, stated that the services are designed to enhance the guest’s stay, and that the partnership with Welcome Pickups delivers this experience from the moment of arrival.

The strategy is clear: Airbnb wants travelers to handle everything within a single app from lodging to dining, from transportation to leisure. The model is increasingly resembling a digital concierge, directly competing with the integrated experience that large hotel chains offer.

Partnership with Instacart and global expansion: the next steps for Airbnb

The transfer service is not the only new feature from Airbnb with external partners in 2026. The platform is testing a kitchen stocking service with Instacart, which allows travelers in some accommodations in the United States to order groceries through the app before and during their stay.

In practice, the guest can arrive at their accommodation and find the fridge stocked with the items they chose—a convenience that eliminates the need to go shopping right upon arrival.

As for the transfer, Airbnb has stated that it intends to expand the private car service to more cities throughout 2026.

There is still no confirmation that Brazil will be among the next markets served, but the inclusion of Latin American cities like Mexico City suggests that expansion to the region is in the plans.

For Airbnb, each new service is an additional layer in the strategy to become indispensable for travelers not just as a place to sleep, but as a complete platform for the entire travel experience.

The Airbnb of 2026 is no longer just lodging and this changes the game for travelers and hotels

With the addition of private airport transfers, Airbnb takes another step to distance itself from the image of a “room rental platform” and move closer to a complete travel ecosystem. Private chef, personal trainer, masseuse, grocery shopping, and now private car at the airport—all booked within the same app, with a fixed price and no surprises. The goal of $1 billion in annual revenue from services shows that Airbnb is serious about the transformation.

For travelers, the convenience is evident. For traditional hotels, it is a warning: Airbnb is no longer just competing for the room—it is competing for the entire travel experience.

Would you use a private car booked through Airbnb to go from the airport to your accommodation? And what do you think about the platform offering a chef, massage, and even grocery shopping? Let us know in the comments if this changes the way you plan your trips.
