Through Braskem’s Investment, Ambipar Triciclo’s Retorna Machines Will Receive Polyethylene and Polypropylene Waste to Increase Recycling of This Type of Plastics
Ambipar Triciclo and Braskem, the largest producer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas, have formed a partnership to enhance the disposal of plastic products in a conscious and appropriate manner. From this initiative, all Retorna Machines, a technology of Ambipar Triciclo, will start receiving polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) packaging, the most widely produced plastic resins worldwide, which are present in many consumer plastic packages and everyday items such as yogurt bottles, sugar packets, beans and rice bags, margarine and ice cream tubs, shampoo, conditioner, fabric softener bottles, among others.
This action contributes to Braskem’s sustainable development goals, including the elimination of plastic waste. The company aims to produce 300,000 tons of thermoplastic resins and chemical products with recycled content by 2025 and one million tons by 2030, in addition to working to prevent 1.5 million tons of plastic waste from being sent to incineration, landfills, or deposited in the environment.
“To achieve the Circular Economy, it is crucial to engage consumers about proper disposal and the importance of recycling. In this regard, we invest in partnerships like this one with Ambipar Triciclo, which raise awareness about everyone’s role in building a more sustainable future. Moreover, this project will help us achieve our goals for plastic waste elimination, generating a positive impact throughout the production chain”, says Fabiana Quiroga, Director of Circular Economy at Braskem in South America.

The plastic waste of PE and PP collected in the Retorna Machines will be used as raw material in Braskem’s newly inaugurated mechanical recycling plant in Indaiatuba (SP), which had an investment of R$ 67 million and is the result of a partnership with Valoren, a technology developer and waste manager for transformation into recycled products. The expectation is that annually 250 million post-consumer packaging made of polyethylene and polypropylene will be transformed into 14,000 tons of high-quality recycled resin that will be reused as raw material in the manufacturing industry.
“Our proposal is to encourage people to properly dispose of waste by making more Retorna Machines available, expanding and strengthening partnerships like this one. With Braskem, we will enhance our sustainability goals and attract more people interested in contributing to the preservation of our planet and future generations,” comments Felipe Nassar Cury, CEO of Ambipar Triciclo.
