Through Braskem's investment, the Return Machines, from Ambipar Triciclo, will receive polyethylene and polypropylene waste in order to increase the recycling of this type of plastic

Ambipar Triciclo and Braskem, the largest producer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas, have entered into a partnership to expand the disposal of plastic products in a conscious and proper manner. As a result of this initiative, all the Return Machines, Ambipar Triciclo’s technology, now receive polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) packaging, plastic resins with the highest production in the world and which are present in many plastic packaging for domestic consumption and people’s daily lives, such as, for example, yogurt bottles, packets of sugar, beans and rice, jars of margarine and ice cream, packaging for shampoo, conditioner, fabric softener, among others.

The action contributes to Braskem's sustainable development goals, among which is the elimination of plastic waste. The company aims to produce 300 thousand tons of thermoplastic resins and chemical products with recycled content by 2025 and one million tons by 2030, in addition to working to prevent 1,5 million tons of plastic waste from being sent to incineration, landfills or deposited in the environment.

“In order to achieve the Circular Economy, it is essential that we engage consumers about proper disposal and the importance of recycling. In this sense, we invest in partnerships like this one with Ambipar Triciclo, which raise awareness about everyone's role in building a more sustainable future. In addition, the project will help us achieve our plastic waste elimination goals, generating a positive impact on the entire production chain,” says Fabiana Quiroga, Circular Economy director at Braskem in South America.

The PE and PP plastic waste collected at the Return Machines will be used as raw material at Braskem's recently inaugurated mechanical recycling plant in Indaiatuba (SP), which involved an investment of R$67 million and is the result of a partnership with Valoren, a company that develops technology and manages waste to transform it into recycled products. The expectation is that, annually, 250 million post-consumer packages made of polyethylene and polypropylene will be transformed into 14 thousand tons of high quality recycled resin which, in turn, will be reused as raw material in the transformation industry.

“Our proposal is to encourage the population to properly dispose of waste, making more and more Return Machines available, expanding and strengthening partnerships like this one. With Braskem, we will leverage our sustainability goals and attract more people interested in contributing to the preservation of our planet and future generations”, comments Felipe Nassar Cury, CEO of Ambipar Triciclo.
