Nexa’s Project Anticipates Mining with Sustainability and Without Dams in Mato Grosso and Will Now Benefit from Cutting-Edge Equipment from Andritz for the Exploration of Various Ores Such as Lead and Copper
The Aripuanã Project, located near the city of Aripuanã in Mato Grosso, will now utilize the equipment from Andritz, which announced on Tuesday (05/03) its partnership with Nexa. Thus, the equipment manufacturing company will provide filter presses so that the mining company can advance its mineral exploration initiative with sustainability and environmental commitment more efficiently and productively.
Nexa’s Sustainable Mining Project Will Explore Iron, Lead, and Copper Without the Use of Dams to Ensure Environmental Commitment
Nexa is increasingly seeking to diversify the mineral market in Brazil and attract new attention to sustainability. The company developed the Aripuanã Project, located in Serra do Expedito, 25 km from the city of Aripuanã in Mato Grosso. This exploration plant will be responsible for adopting sustainable practices, such as not using dams and repurposing resources, aiming for a new dynamic of mineral exploration in the area.
Among Nexa’s goals for sustainable mining in the project is the target of reusing 100% of the water, constructing a dry tailings facility, and focusing on creating a legacy for the local community. Thus, zinc, iron, lead, and copper ores will be mined without the use of dams and with the implementation of all these measures to mitigate the environmental impacts caused in the production chain. With the partnership of Andritz, Nexa will be able to further enhance the efficiency of mineral production.

The model of the equipment is the A4F2500CCWDL15, one of Andritz’s new investments to reduce the use of dams in the mining of these raw materials. Nexa Develops New Initiative to Ensure Even Greater Efficiency Within the Productive Chain of Its Sustainable Mining Project in Mato Grosso
One of the main issues encountered by Nexa and Andritz in the sustainable mining project in Mato Grosso was the availability of equipment. This is because, for the sustainable production of these ores, the company needs the filter presses to operate without interruption, meaning no unexpected downtimes. Thus, both companies developed an initiative dubbed in-company store, aimed at ensuring greater availability of these equipment within their own production chain of these ores.
In this way, Andritz’s market manager, Eduardo Castro, commented that “With the in-company store in Aripuanã, the client will have the necessary parts in stock both for preventive maintenance of the equipment and for emergency use.” Furthermore, the company also stated that the use of Andritz presses will be essential for a new perspective on these equipment: “With the discontinuation of dam usage initiated by major companies in the field, Andritz forecasts a large market for the implementation of this filter press model in the long term.”
