Photographer Jerry Pike revealed some images on his personal profile on the X platform, showing the new US missile in the air. The four photos show the object, which took off from Cape Canaveral flying in a trajectory consistent with airspace dedicated to launches conducted on the US East Coast.
According to Pike on his profile on X, shortly after launch, the “Black Eagle” missile split into two different parts, with one appearing to fall and the other continuing to fly at high speed forward until it disappeared into the sky. The United States conducted the last test with the new hypersonic missile in December of last year in the same region.

The Congressional Research Service states that the missile system has an operational range of 2776 km, a maximum speed exceeding Mach 5, and the capability to defeat enemy anti-access/area denial defenses.
This is a direct reference to China’s strategy in the Pacific based on long-range weapon systems that it can use to keep US warships and aircraft carriers at bay, enabling the nation to claim full sovereignty over the entirety of the South China Sea and beyond.
It is worth mentioning that although the reported range is 2776 km, the country’s army acknowledged that the full test, conducted on June 28, saw the new hypersonic missile cover about 3200 km from its launch point in Hawaii to its impact point at a test range in the Marshall Islands.
