Ford Is Also Tripling Production Of The New Mustang Mach-E To 200,000 Annual Units. Overall, The Automaker Expects A Global Electric Vehicle Production Capacity Of 600,000 Units Annually
The Ford Motor Company said last Tuesday (4) that it will double the annual production capacity of its electric F-150 Lightning pickup, which represents the manufacturing of 150,000 vehicles. The model has already attracted nearly 200,000 reservations ahead of its arrival this spring at U.S. dealerships, and the competition with rivals General Motors and Tesla is set to heat up!

Ford Aims To Challenge Giant Tesla And Plans To Achieve Production Of 600,000 Electric Cars Globally Within 24 Months
To avoid being surpassed, the multinational vehicle manufacturer Ford previously announced a tripling of production for its ever-popular Mustang Mach-E, expecting to reach over 200,000 units annually by 2023.
This, combined with Ford’s upcoming fully electric E-Transit van, provides much optimism for future EV production. For comparison, just last year, Tesla reported delivering over 935,000 EVs globally.
Ford stated that it will have the annual capacity to assemble 600,000 electric vehicles globally within 24 months, when it aims to become “the second largest electric vehicle manufacturer in North America,” behind Tesla.
Future electric vehicles from Ford are expected to be manufactured in the USA, Canada, Mexico, China, and Germany, according to industry research firm AutoForecast Solutions.
The F-150 Lightning 2022 will have a starting price of $39,974 and is being targeted at retail and commercial customers. Ford stated that over 75% of the reservation holders for the electric pickup are new to the brand.
After Volkswagen, Honda, Audi, Volvo And Renault, Ford Motor Chief Announces The Cessation Of Production Of Gasoline And Diesel Combustion Engines To Focus On Electric Cars, But Does Not Give A Date
After halting vehicle production and exiting the country, Ford’s head in the Americas, Kumar Galhotra, said that the automaker has full electrification on its radar. This statement aligns with automotive industry giants, such as Volkswagen, Honda, Volvo, and Renault, which have also recently announced that they have stopped or will stop the development and production of gasoline and diesel combustion engines to invest in manufacturing electric cars.
The American automaker confirmed to the market that, while still very far from it and without knowing exactly when, Ford will be a fully electric brand in the future and will set aside combustion engines to meet new carbon emission standards.
Galhotra said, “I can easily see a point where we would say: ‘This is the date when we would be fully electric’.” He added: “We are certainly working towards that.”
