A Solid Increase of 26.4% in 2022 Placed Steel 12th Among Products Destined for the Global Market, Continuing to Perform Well Since Then.
Starting the second week of January, the exports of steel and ferroalloys from the Transformation Industry grew by 59% compared to the same period last year. The budget and surplus from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Services reveal this.
Considering all other Brazilian exports, the increase was 16.8%, leading to a trade surplus of US$ 1.71 billion in just two weeks.
Only behind rice, corn, raw minerals, copper ore, sugar, and molasses, steel production was the sixth largest destined for foreign trade. These figures do not include the manufacture and export of Green Steel, which is a more sustainable and ecological material.

The increase in exports at the beginning of 2023 follows the jump of 26.4% compared to the previous year seen in 2022, when these products frequently ranked 12th abroad.
According to the ministry’s mapping, between January and December 2022, 4.3 million tons of iron and steel were sold abroad, resulting in a transfer of US$ 6.5 billion.
The United States, China, Canada, Japan, and the Netherlands are among the five main countries from which Brazilians seek products online.
The global demand for this raw material has increased in recent years, as documented by the ministry’s historical series. In 2020, steel exports totaled US$ 3.8 billion. There was a 36.1% increase in exports the following year, when total revenue reached US$ 5.1 billion. The figure will increase to US$ 6.5 billion in 2022.
