An Institutional Milestone Consolidates Female Presence At All Levels Of The Aeronautics And Closes A Historical Cycle Started Decades Ago

The Brazilian Air Force experienced, on February 23, one of the most symbolic moments in its recent history by welcoming, in Brasília (DF), the first women selected to join the Air Force Soldier Corps. Their entry takes place within the Soldier Training Course 1/2026, a milestone that represents not just an administrative change, but a structural transformation in the institution’s composition.

The information was disclosed by official channels of the FAB and confirmed by institutional sources from the Aeronautics, who highlighted the historical significance of the incorporation. Although female presence had already been consolidated in various corps and specialties, this is the first time women officially occupy the initial level of the military career in the Air Force, completing female participation from the rank of Soldier to General Officer.

Of the nearly 200 candidates who voluntarily presented themselves for the female Initial Military Service selection process, 64 were approved at all stages, and 62 immediately began the so-called Standby Period, an administrative phase that precedes official incorporation, scheduled for March 2.

Stringent Selection And Adaptation To Military Life Precede Official Incorporation

The supplementary selection process was structured with the same rigor historically applied to men. The candidates underwent psychological evaluation, social interview, health inspection, physical fitness test, and document verification, ensuring equity, technical criteria, and institutional standardization.

With the reception of those approved, the Standby Period began, an essential stage for adapting to military routine. During this time, the future soldiers receive administrative guidance, basic notions of life in the barracks, and initial instructions on discipline, hierarchy, and military conduct, factors considered decisive for success in training.

From the moment of incorporation, the new members of the FAB will start a training course lasting approximately four months, during which they will undergo physical training, basic military instruction, and development of fundamental skills for performing their duties.

According to Captain Rioustilhany Cardoso Campos, secretary of the Complementary Selection Commission, the arrival of women in the Soldier Corps symbolizes the closing of an institutional cycle, consolidating female presence in all the corps that make up the structure of the Aeronautics.

Personal Stories Reveal The Human Impact Of A Historical Advancement

Beyond the institutional weight, the entry of the first women into the FAB’s Soldier Corps is also marked by personal journeys full of meaning. Young women between 18 and 19 years old, coming from different regions of the country, share the same goal: to serve the nation while wearing the Air Force uniform.

From Unaí (MG), Ana Laura Santos Silva, 18, grew up surrounded by military references in her family. Inspired by her father, godfather, and cousin, all linked to the Armed Forces, she describes the approval as the realization of a long-held dream and affirms she is ready for the challenges of the career.

In Taguatinga (DF), Giovanna Judith Pimenta dos Santos, also 18, received direct support from her family, including in her physical preparation. The effort yielded significant results: she achieved first place overall in her class, reflecting her discipline and dedication throughout the process.

From Piauí came Daniela Silva de Araújo and Laisa da Silva Rodrigues, both 18, who found motivation for pursuing a military career in their family history. While Daniela overcame each stage with family support from afar, Laisa highlights persistence as a central element of her achievement and believes the military experience will bring profound changes in her personal development.

Meanwhile, Emily Giovana de Paula Barros, 19, originally from Anápolis (GO), celebrated her approval as a birthday gift and a concrete opportunity for the future. Emotionally moved, she revealed that the achievement will be announced to her mother as a surprise, symbolizing the personal significance of this moment.

A Step That Inspires And Expands Women’s Access To National Defense

By joining the Soldier Corps, these women not only fulfill individual projects, but pave the way for future generations interested in serving in the Armed Forces. The symbolic impact of the incorporation goes beyond the barracks, reinforcing the message that roles related to national defense are increasingly accessible to female participation.

During the initial guidance, officers from the Aeronautics emphasized that this achievement carries historical responsibility, requiring discipline, emotional resilience, and perseverance. The institutional expectation is that female presence at the entry level of the career will contribute to strengthening diversity, representativeness, and cultural modernization of the Air Force.

With official incorporation scheduled for early March, the FAB consolidates a historic advancement that reflects broader social changes and reaffirms the commitment of the Aeronautics to equality of opportunities, merit, and the appreciation of voluntary service.
