Minas Olive Oil Wins Gold in Paris and Is Elected the Best in Brazil. See Why Minas Became a World Highlight.
Minas Gerais Celebrates New International Gold for Olive Oil
The Mantikir Grappolo olive oil, produced in Maria da Fé, in the Mantiqueira Mountains, won a gold medal at the Olio Nuovo Days in Paris this Tuesday (23).
The label from Vinícola Essenza secured second place in the Southern Hemisphere ranking and, in addition, was elected the best olive oil in Brazil for the second consecutive year during the Festival Du Monde, organized by the newspaper Le Monde.
The recognition came because the unique terroir of Mantiqueira, combined with EPAMIG’s research and the precise management of producers, elevated Minas to the international map of excellence olive oils.

Minas Olive Oil Collects Achievements in Paris
Vinícola Essenza shone doubly at the Olio Nuovo Days. In addition to the ranking highlight, the company won the Premium Gold Medal with the Mantikir Coratina olive oil. This double victory further solidified the prestige of Minas producers in one of the most respected contests in the sector.
“We placed Brazil’s highest olive grove, at 1,900 meters above sea level, at the top of the international ranking once again. This achievement demonstrates the strength of dedication and production that respects the terroir of Mantiqueira,” stated Herbert Sales, owner of Essenza.
The Strength of Research: Minas Cultivar Stands Out
The award-winning olive oil was born from Grappolo 541, a cultivar developed by EPAMIG and adapted to the climate of the Mantiqueira Mountains. The result was a fruity olive oil with herbal notes and balanced bitterness.
Known as MGS GRAP541 and registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, the variety is part of a select group of protected cultivars. This advancement established Maria da Fé as a reference in olive cultivation.
“We created an exclusive clone, adjusted to our terroir and officially protected, ensuring legitimacy to the pioneering work,” emphasized Sales.
Thus, tradition and science united, transforming the Mantiqueira Mountains into an international showcase for excellence olive oils.
International and National Recognition
It wasn’t just Paris that applauded Minas olive oil. The same Grappolo received the title of best olive oil in Brazil from the Spanish Olive Oil Higher Education School (ESAO), one of the most important in the world in the sector.
For Pedro Moura, coordinator of the EPAMIG Olive Cultivation Research Program, the award is a direct result of the union between science and tradition.
“When an olive oil is awarded, we identify the success of research in planting recommendations, cultivar selection, and management. We still have many challenges ahead, but there’s much to celebrate,” he assessed.
Olive Oil Festival Brings Together the Best of the Southern Hemisphere
The Olio Nuovo Days goes beyond a simple competition. The festival takes place twice a year and strategically awards the olive oils of the Northern Hemisphere first, and then, in September, those of the Southern Hemisphere.
With this dynamic, the event brings together Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, and South Africa on the same stage. These countries compete side by side, vying for the podium and seeking international recognition.
In this edition, Minas shone again in Paris. The Monasto Olive Oil, produced in Maria da Fé, won the coveted Premium Gold Medal.
The label impressed the judges by presenting a sophisticated blend of Arbequina, Arbosana, Koroneiki, Coratina, and Picual. Thus, the Minas region reaffirmed its prominent global position by placing more than one olive oil among the best in the world.
Minas Gerais on the World Olive Oil Map
The repeated success in Paris proves that Minas olive oil is not a passing trend, but rather a product of excellence. Thanks to the high altitude, cool climate, and especially the tireless dedication of producers, the region shapes a unique terroir that achieves international recognition.
Moreover, the consecutive awards and the title of best olive oil in Brazil for the second consecutive year further reinforce the strength of Minas labels. Thus, they establish themselves as indispensable choices not only for demanding consumers but also for industry specialists.
Therefore, Minas exports much more than olive oil. The state exports pride, innovation, and credibility. By transforming tradition into science and research into results, producers deliver a true liquid gold that conquers Paris and gradually expands its prestige worldwide.
