BMW Announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Its New Concept Electric Car with Dee Technology That Can Change Color According to Its “Own Emotions.”
BMW is following its 2023 schedule, and proof of this is the presentation of its concept car i Vision during the company’s talk at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which started this Wednesday (4). The four-door electric car was a major highlight on stage due to its E-Ink technology, the same one presented by the brand at last year’s fair, which allows changing the exterior color of the vehicle, and for having “its own emotions.”
BMW Electric Vehicle Features Dee Technology
The model is considered the foundation for the next generation of BMW models, which are expected to hit the market starting in 2025. The new concept electric car features Dee technology, revealed as a new intelligent assistant. This innovation means Digital Emotional Experience, or digital emotional experience, and serves to both personalize and humanize the car more.
The German automaker emphasizes that the technology goes beyond a voice and even has its own personality. According to Oliver Zipse, BMW’s CEO, Dee is the next level of interaction between man and machine. BMW plans to turn this vision into reality by combining software and hardware for a unique and seamless digital experience.

The electric car’s technology will feature different levels of interaction and can access social media, calls, and text messages on the driver’s phone. The most basic level assists the driver with navigation and direction information. The feature can also project navigation data onto the car’s windshield, in addition to issuing collision and obstacle alerts on the road.
BMW May Launch Fully Autonomous Cars
The most advanced level of the electric vehicle technology is level 4, which, according to the company’s statements, goes far beyond reality, allowing friends and pets to virtually join you in your car, for example.
Although it has not detailed how it all will work, Dee states that everyone will be able to hang out together in their virtual world. “You wouldn’t believe what can fit in your electric car in the future,” the assistant completes. In the end, the most advanced functions are expected to be reserved for when BMW cars become fully autonomous.
BMW Group launched a unique project last year that will allow vehicles to navigate cities without needing a driver. The project is named Automatisiertes Fahren im Werk, developed alongside two startups aiming to enhance the efficiency of logistics for new cars in distribution centers and factories.
BMW Signs Agreement Focused on Battery Development
BMW and Solid Power, a battery company, have signed an agreement for a new project in 2023. Now, BMW, which previously focused on investing in the battery brand, is sharing some rights with Solid Power to develop its own batteries for its electric cars.
The battery company is the most well-known in the solid-state battery segment, where in June of last year, the brand established a production line for futuristic batteries for testing and qualification purposes. After this mass production of batteries, Solid Power plans to distribute them between BMW and Ford.
Afterward, the company is now “sharing” its battery cell projects and manufacturing with the German brand. This business will amount to US$ 20 million to be paid between now and June of next year.
